Heard some senior folks talk about our high performing teams in terms of sports teams. It made me think about genuinely high performing sports teams - the ones who are given time to develop and train, given the best equipment, given support, given trust and empowered to perform and then I thought about XOM, the team on the field is despised by their managers, trying to perform with worse equipment each year, no support and a performance system that pits teammates against each other. I realised the sports team analogy is a pile of bullsh-t.

Yes - XOM is the Yankees. We provide the best TSR of all the IOC’s and have been delivering in this space for decades. They are hated cause they are winners. Haters gonna hate.

When you think of the analogy, think of "ball hog" type players... those that win at the detriment of others. That is EM's definition of 'team'.
Three of us were a 'team' that needed to accomplish a task; a week later we regrouped and updated one another on our progress. We helped one another as needed. At the end of two weeks, a colleague asked me, why did you come back with results, work completed and an offer to help me? I said, because thats how teams perform. Her response: I've never worked like this in 20 years of my career.
So friends, we have a system that has completed failed and will continue to... choose how you decide to leave it.
Professional athletics are a business. You want the best performing athletes at the lowest price. Highly paid athletes that don’t perform don’t get new big contracts. That is the analogy.
Pro athletes are constantly fighting each other.
