Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Anybody else notice the apathy is spreading like wildfire?

You can see it everywhere. People have completely stopped trying. Management doesn't care about us, so we don't care about our jobs anymore.

A curse has been set on bp. Just waiting for the outcome to materialize. Those that play games during reorgs and take satisfaction at other difficulties will have their most vulnerable kin as a token for their behavior…and, no crying permitted. Let’s start the corporate hunger games now

@a5 not collaborating to claim credit, when employees collaborate, the credit gets stolen from them and given to someone else.

There is no win win this time…that’s why you feel chronic unease

Don’t confuse apathy with malicious intent. Intent to make others take the fall and place others in vulnerable situations so they last another initiative. But, those that play this game have their kids who will have a very difficult life…so they may continue to work and save but, thier children have a challenging future…this time is so different

@OP constant change and reorg are not really a morale boost, so I guess it's normal. Add to that the fact they are offshoring most roles, so people don't feel valued.

The bp cadre are tired…they went from British Petroleum to beyond Petrolum to bp to now a large process driven monster returning to its roots. The cadre are tired. MO does not have the luxury to go small. The company needs a reinvent..so if it’s small a calculated it will have to be retried in 2027.
The fact that no one knows means it’s still being negotiated as we speak. Probably some phased approach with 6666 employees to be discarded

@a6 “politics outweigh performance”. You said it perfectly.

@OP I’ve seen this first hand, the smoozing, the visibility games, the people who glide into the spotlight by attaching themselves to someone else’s work. I’ve watched credit get redirected to the loudest voice instead of the person who actually delivered. And I’ve seen capable people left out of key meetings where their expertise should have been essential. It creates a culture where politics outrank performance, and once that takes hold, it’s no surprise morale starts to collapse.

I’ve seen something different - backstabbing, shifting blame to make others look bad, not collaborating in order to claim credit. People are in self preservation mode and it’s bringing out the worst behaviors. It’s exhausting, and I hope the people acting like this have consequences. But bp seems to encourage and reward this type of behavior - especially for mid-level workers and managers.

The vacant empty feeling is pre anticipated event. Everyone knows something is about to occur…it’s heavy and palatable. Can MO create or is she a destroyer?

Have you noticed that BP employees have the the most chronically ill progeny of any company? Let’s tie Apathy with gamesmanship with terrible health. There I said it…it must have been the vax or something…
