Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

I hope they've considered the mass vacation that's about to happen.

Assuming we get notified 7/27 and that most people's end date is 9/4, that only gives 5 weeks for everyone to use up vacation and personal time. They don't want us taking PTO within 2 weeks of separation, so all vacation has to be used by 8/21. I don't know about everyone else, but I've got 16 days of vacation/sick time to burn, and I'm not the only one in my department who has admitted to applying for the VSP. If we all get accepted with the default exit date, my team will be running at 40% capacity. It will be a good preview of the sh-t show that they are about to walk into.

Good luck if on a smaller team. They only allow 1 person off a day on my team…

@am In California, if your PTO is not paid out, or there are other labor law violations, you can file what is known as a PAGA claim. (Private Attorney General Act). But I do suspect they will follow the laws for CA.

I requested vacation the day I accepted VSP and it was approved. I can change it once I know my separation date, if needed, but I'm not leaving anything on the table. You take my bonus, good pay and now my job, then expect me to forfeit my earned time off? Nope. Vacations are basically part of our salary package and I am not leaving one cent for them.

Has anyone not been able to request time off? The last time off I was able to request was for mid July.

Meh … not worried about my 2 weeks of PTO. But I’m taking a day here and there. I’ll have plenty of downtime coming in Sept and beyond. I don’t plan on job hunting until January !

Mass vacation? Read that paperwork closely. Giving them any reason to say you aren't performing means you walk away with nothing.

Indeed, and ya know what? They will have no one to blame but themselves. When you kick a hornet's nest, don't be surprised if you get stung.

Where I live it is required earned vacation be paid out. Nope Centene did not pay it out. They count on you not pursuing given the legal costs involved. I am shocked at the way people are treated by this organization. Shameful.

@a8 not all states, the states that do are actually in the minority, odds are that the state you live in will not require it to be paid out.

Centene policy states PTO will not be paid out upon leaving the company, but state law overrides company policy.

@OP That's assuming that PL's will approve vacation requests. I could see them denying requests due to urgent business needs because they know a mass exodus is coming. I've been trying to burn mine slowly since this was announced: a day here, a half day there. I feared they'd eventually stop approving requests closer to the VSP decisions.
