Thread regarding PNC layoffs

Accommodation denied even though many on my team work remote…

Those who work remote have the same title and job duties, but the rejection said “after reviewing your job responsibilities, we’ve decided we cannot accommodate remote work at this time.” I submitted with a doctor’s note explaining the condition and reasoning for the (temporary! Not even permanent, it said temporary) accommodation request, and it was denied. HR never even called me to talk about it, they just read the forms and denied it, which makes me think they’re just denying all of them. Anyone else have this experience?

Push back. Employer has to give something depending on your circumstance. Think of it this way. If you were in a wheelchair and asked for a desk space to accommodate you, they can't just flat out say no and that's the end of it. You need what you need. If your paperwork was loosely written it gives them an easy out. It should explicitly detail what is medically necessary for your situation

@gk It is definitely out of compliance with ADA regulations, but the law favors employers because of “at will” employment and what that allows when it comes to terminating employees.

@fh sounds like a possible ADA violation

From direct experience plus hearing from others, almost 100% of accommodation requests are being denied without any explanation, regardless of medical documentation.

Yes, this happened to me. The HR person at least called me to tell me the “reasonable accommodation” they were willing to offer me which alleviates nothing and aren’t possible anyway. But, I’m in the same boat as you- my team is not in this state and staying remote and had a doctor’s recommendation.

Many have been denied. You are not alone.
