Thread regarding IBM layoffs

They want me to quit

They can't lay me off without severance, so they're making me want to quit instead. That's the only conclusion I can make after my workload got cut to nothing, my meetings disappeared, and my manager stopped including me in planning. I guess they're hoping I'll eventually crack and submit my resignation. Or they'll try to fire me. Whatever it is, I'm definitely not going to do them any favors and walk away on my own. They have no idea how stubborn I can get.

You said: "Don't encourage theft. It is illegal and immoral."
Isn't it what Alvind, the slimy Indian doing ?
You, as the slimy Indian cheerleader, you encourage theft.
So, before setting rules, look at the mirror.
Useless POS.

@c8

I am not an HR India Bot

How many times must I say I am in the US and my Talent ID ends in 897
And the dehumanizing of Arvind is cruel and heartless.
All I see here is wishing for the downfall of IBM and people calling Arvind a Sl1my Indian
The hate needs to end and it ends now

Mr Gerstner saved IBM and Arvind even though it was a rough week for him is acquiring companies to help IBM stay competitive.

@c1 too funny hearing a HR shill lecture about "theft" - the same company that stole my pension and retiree healthcare. Folks, take the displays - they will just toss em anyway; not like they can send them to India. Usually expensed at the Dept level anyway. As to chairs, same deal - think of all of all of the abandoned IBM sites - Somers, Palisades, Southbury - hundreds if not thousands of chairs left to rot. Take what you want; it no longer matters. Arvind has burnt IBM to the ground; save what you can from the fire.

As to Arvind, when he has a bad day, I have a good one! He is a POS and deserves only the worst outcomes. F U Arvind, you horrible basterd - dehumanizing tens of thousands of American lives for a quick buck and a losing strategy. You s u c k!

@ag

Don't encourage theft. It is illegal and immoral. Why would anyone want to do that especially with cameras anywhere

As far as Arvind. The dehumanizing ends here and it ends now. He has had a very stressful 10 days. Imagine having to deal with institutional investors and lead a company.

Arvind always has the element of surprise. While many here were cheering IBMs demise, He bought HCL Labs

Also, if you get RA'ed, you get 6 months health coverage from IBM. It costs IBM $$$$
I am sticking around for the severance money and the extended health coverage.

OP - consider this action by management as your layoff notice. The only thing is, you have not been given a separation date...yet. Every day's pay from now forward IS your severance pay. Now that you've been "laid off/RAd", do what you would have done if you actually were let go. Use the IBM resources available to you to get training/certifications (yes, IBM will pay for your Cert exams). Start looking for your next job - it could be internal via Professional Marketplace, or external. It's easier to find a job when you still have a job. Your manager just cleared your calendar so that you have time to do all these things - and still get paid to do it. You just need to disengage your ego over what just happened to you, pull up your big boy/girl pants and get moving on towards WHAT'S NEXT. And did I mention you're still getting paid while you do this? (No different than severance pay)

What are you waiting for? JUST DO IT!

This is known as "quiet firing" and the active response is "quiet quitting." If they are not giving you any assignments, use the company Udemy account to get some new certificates. Heck Udemy even has a nice Japanese course.

Companies HATE quiet quitting, because the entire system -- especially when dealing with Elite Human Capital infested companies like IBM -- relies on people having such a good work ethic they work above and beyond to make up for their Elite Human Capital coworkers either putting out awful work product or just avoiding work.

But be aware what they'll likely do in the next ~6 months is claim you not having any work to do is evidence that you're not meeting key performance indicators, i.e., it won't be a layoff, it'll be a PIP where they say you have to do the work you're not being given better. Afterwards they can get rid of you citing your failure to improve.

Sounds like paid time off and job search period. Also, by doing nothing (and making IBM lay you off), you walk away with IBM money. How great is that!

Whatever you do, don't quit. That only makes the corrupt IBM management the winners in this game of "Silent Treatment".

Check if you can move their furniture, stereos, mini fridges, printers around for entertainment purposes. Keep your head down and act as though nothing happened. Document, document document anything and everything you are told to do by your management. And ask around (even on this site) for recommendations for a good lawyer. Gotta keep the evil IBM Empire crooks on their toes. Continue to be stubborn and your management will eventually blink.

Same. I’m so sick of working here but after 7.5 years, I want my severance package. I’m hoping that just do it soon and get it over with.

@OP This is the same story with many people... You're not alone.... They're using mafia tactics until you submit your resignation... Don't do that and document everything (they'll do the same but you could document even more). There appears to be a lack of competence managers and leads within this company...
