Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Bureaucracy

Dan talked about eliminating bureaucracy and said communication below Band 5 isn’t flowing effectively.

The reality is that nothing will change unless the organization is truly flattened. My organization just went through a massive reorg, and I still have two layers of Band 6 management above me—even though I’m also a Band 6 employee.

If leadership is serious about reducing bureaucracy, the conversation can’t stop at messaging. It has to include eliminating the excessive layers between individual contributors and the executive team.

Also I want to know what AD will do differently than D and Sr. Director.

@f2 I would enjoy the day when they will get rid of people who actually work and retain “people managers”. Lmao

I concur! In technical delivery organizations like network deployments/optimizations, SRE, software dev. You basically don’t even need leaders. Band 6 leadership in these rolls is utterly pointless. Band 5 can literally just go to a engineer and say I need you to deliver X by Y date. They should be able to do that. Period. No over-site necessary. If they can’t and it’s not because they didn’t have access to something or budget but they literally don’t know how to learn on the spot to get it done. Get rid of them too. Instead they’re exploring outsourcing all the engineering LOL. They’re going to keep these “leaders”, and “fellows”.. It’s hilarious and it’s going to go so sideways.

The only thing they want us to automate is our Directors/Sr. Directors slides to upper management. Since when has corporate America accepted that this level of management do mostly nothing.

@aj I used to think GTS was the most difficult organization to work with. Then I started working with Channel Operations.

GTS may be political, but they generally understand the discussion the first time. With Channel Operations, it’s often the opposite. You can explain the same concept repeatedly, answer every question, and then get the exact same question all over again. It turns every decision into an endless loop.

You can work around politics. You can’t work around stupid.

Start with clearing out all supposed SVPs and VPs, especially in GTS. Place is so back stabbing and underhanded....cultivated by the entire staff there.

100%
I actually have to deal with more bureaucracy after his declaration of less bureaucracy. Words are useless. Need action or train the paralyzing levels how to back off
