Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Farewell

I know it’s easy to get online and say whatever you want when you’re hiding behind anonymity.

Centene used to be a company I was genuinely proud to work for. Somewhere along the way, though, the job stopped feeling like work and started feeling like it was draining the life out of me. Every day took a little more than I had left to give.

Walking away is one of the scariest decisions I’ve ever made. I’ll probably never make this kind of money again, at least not anytime soon, and in today’s job market that’s a hard reality to face. But no paycheck is worth sacrificing your peace, your mental health, or waking up dreading every single day.

The hardest part is knowing healthcare just isn’t where I’m supposed to be anymore. These members deserve someone who still has the emotional capacity and compassion to truly show up for them. I don’t want to become the kind of person who stays just because the money is good while giving people less than they deserve.

So I’m choosing myself, even though I have no idea what comes next. It’s terrifying. It’s uncertain. But for the first time in a long time, I can finally breathe.

To everyone whose VRP was accepted, I sincerely wish you the best. I hope this scary leap turns into the fresh start we’ve all been needing.

THIS, all of this! The internal conflict I faced the past couple years have drained me. I can't be the type of leader I want to be here. I still care about quality, realistic expectations, and treating people with dignity. I look forward to growing elsewhere.

Best of luck to you! I didn't take VSP, but I whole heartedly understand why so many have.

It's going to be exciting learning a new job and possibly a new industry!

I hope the people who leave health care insurance come back to this board to remind us left behind what other fields are out there and how our skills are valued by other companies. Heck, even if people do stay in the insurance lane, stories of life greener on the other side of the fence is always welcome.

Have to agree, Senior Leaders through this past few months between Mission Simplify and VSP have proven there is a serious lack of a cohesive plan.

Right now, they are sitting in rooms planning massive investment projects next year especially in the IT space while cutting so many people with VSP and ISP. Teams are already at capacity, where do they think the extra bandwidth is coming from to complete these?

I'm with you. I feel the same way. I'm actively interviewing for other jobs and will be taking a big pay cut for anything that I can get. I just can't hang around and see what's going to happen. We already are seeing the repercussions of this and it will ultimately affect the members we serve. One person I know who applied for the VSP has her last day set as December 11 - I can't imagine trying to find a job late in the year when employers are usually on a hiring freeze at that time. IMO, they are lining the VSP peeps up to make sure they have enough people to work until the end of the year because they know there are going to be many who will be finding new jobs before then. Wishing everyone the best but I'm getting out as soon as I can.
