Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Raises

Looks like 2% budget this year for raises. IBM’s workday shows market movement is around 4% average for engineer job roles. I know folks are expecting even higher to combat the 15% inflation. Looks like IBM could be claiming the competitions layoffs as reasons not to put enough cash towards employees.

Really if there is any company that needs a Union it is IBM. Lee Conrad had it right, but too many drank the Kool-Aid and got what they deserved.

IBM was never employee friendly. Even the Watson years was apparently a facade. Some actors will tell you that they were ruthless.

“Has a non-contract employee ever got a cost of living adjustment”

Yes, I have seen it occur, rarely. Pushed from HR as a special program. HR keeps confidential the criteria and never announces the programs, but as a manager the only option we get is to approve or deny. The deny reasons are limited to PIP, transfer, role change, submitted resignation that HR is not aware of yet, etc. HR sets a fixed increase we can’t adjust.
I’ve seen raises pushed quietly to diversity qualified folks, which HR officially denies is the reason. In the world that means Women will see those adjustments more often, because in low cost countries, women are paid half of a man salary. Also adhoc raises to folks that are below a percentage of salary range. Bumping people up to the 85% or 90% minimum of existing band that was re analyzed. This happens more frequently in countries like India where it’s possible an average city salaries double in a year.

Yeah, last year was 1.5% after 6 years of zero %.

This year - 20-25(if bonus pays full) percent raise ..... at a new company/job. It's what it takes.

Now just waiting for IBM to RA me
