Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

With midyear reviews due soon it's important to remember the most important metric....

......badge swipes

As a senior manager I am being told to consider potentially laying off the people with the least badge swipes regardless of their productivity.

BNY is now a Laverne and Shirley company

@2mkw, falsifying business records is a felony in NY if it's used to cover up another crime. If it's not fraud to hide from your employer, falsifying business records would still be a class A misdemeanor.

My manager was ahead of this so my team in PA all requested multiple badges and we each go in once per two weeks and swipe everyone elses badges in so that it looks like we each go in every day!

Isn’t it great to work for a company that believes in participation trophies? I thought we already graduated high school?

My now Ex-manager started an employee of the month program about 6 months ago...felt like I was working for McDonalds for the first time in my life.
Then he had the plastic gonads to award it to himself one month.

My manager had a snap call with HR to justify why most of his team was in the red. They’ve got a blunt instrument, and they’ll use it if they can. What a way to run a company….

Meanwhile, WM CEO is sending around agit-prop on the evils of WHF… we get it lady. You like being domineering in person. Maybe those who do the actual work want the time, space, and atmosphere to be actually productive.

With no credible HR processes for job goals and metrics, there can be no way to measure performance. Consider that the cascaded goals are all D.E.I. and E.S.G. indoctrination. Then understand that any actual yearend goals are usually planned and finalized in the third quarter! Add in the fact that it has been decades since managers could perform their employees’ jobs and about a decade since they have even understood what their subordinates actually do.

So maybe the best that a manager can do is actually badge swipes. This is only one more aspect of the problem of four or five redundant layers of middle management. All of the cost cutting and layoffs need to be targeting middle management.

If my manager told me I needed to be in the office 3 days a week in February 2020 I would be doing cartwheels in the hall. GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!
And trust me, it's not the best performers that refuse to come into the office 3 days a week.
If you want to make your own rules, great, run your own company.

Almost time for mid-year reviews, yet my team is on our third round of revising our goals — still haven’t been finalised. Makes sense now, only grade will be number of swipes it seems.

It's all about organizational dictatorship, they don't care about their employees as they portray. It's all just smoke and mirrors, then the puppet strings come out when the curtain falls.
