Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

They must get warm bodies in seats to justify that big comp package

They’ve been monitoring badge swipes for a few months now. Your manager gets a report detailing compliance with RTO for each direct report: colour coded, maroon, red, mint, and green, based on amount of swipes per month.
Make no mistake, a firm like BNYM with several layers of redundant management MUST implement RTO and additional reports for RTO compliance in order to justify said existence of those managers.
It is up to you, us, employees, to reject this reactionary as--ult on our small gains these past few years.
I know many Regional Presidents must have realised their entire job consists of forwarding emails we’ve already received from automated servers. They must get warm bodies in seats to justify that big comp package.
If you haven’t been under this yet, consider yourself lucky. All of WM was placed on special 3-day by CK, and managers have been watching the monthly reports.

@ahw+1lFSqsn2 said it perfectly.

  1. K. and her extended family should be very glad that they were even hired after the famous Keating Five era scandals.

Treating people differently on any basis except merit is bound to create rifts between teams and people and that will only grow over time. Specifically, new permanent work from home hires and Senior Management who swap in and out knowing they’ll never be challenged. Damn near every action these days seems to be designed to permanently destroy our attitudes.

In office 3 days isn’t even being forced across the whole bank. It’s by section cause I know plenty of areas who aren’t making their teams go in at all or others have said 4 times a quarter , Once a week or some other bs. Why is it not for all? And you took seats away so how the he-l do we all come in with no where to sit

Let those in NY demanding us to come back come and work at some of these other offices. In NY they have audio/video capable rooms all around each floor. My building? We have like 4 VC rooms and they are reserved for client use. So now, how are we expected to gather and have meetings with our team, which includes people from other locations? Oh, we all sit at our desk, with our headphones on, and do a teams meeting. I could do that from home! Offices are not setup properly for today's working environment.

It’s not going to change. It’s all about the badge swipes, we need to realize that. The best option for all of us it to find a company that appreciates hard work. As a senior manager that has been with to company for two decades it pains me to say it, but I’ve been updating my resume to actively start looking.

This is amazing. The Bank has been harping on this for a year and have been requiring and measuring it for at least 8 months. This is only one more example of the inherent lack of communications with the bloat of 6 to 8 layers of middle management. Charlie was right With spans and layers. Every displacement in middle management saves money and increases efficiency. And yes, the best cuts are at the MD level. We don’t need layers of political people who only ask “Is it done yet?”

This is a win/win. Every displacement of highly compensated corporate politicians makes the bank function better while reducing costs. There is even good fishing at the Executive committee.

Either you’re a middle manager not doing your job, or you do real work and haven’t had time to notice. Our team has been getting heat on this for months, and talking to other people in my office and other offices they have the same experience.
I have heard from some that their managers are ignoring it, hopefully for them that continues. Some of us aren’t so lucky to have self-respecting managers

I have a decently sized team. Never have seen this badge swipe report you speak of. Weird.

CK has been sending “articles” about the dangers or WFH to senior managers in WM, trying to poison the narrative, one presumes. Word is she’s now pushing hard for a full 5-day RTO. It really is amazing the myopia and self-serving egomania of these people

I think what infuriates me as much as anything is their propaganda they spew, trying to justify this decision.
The reality is, we’re jammed in tiny work spaces like sardines… Everybody has headphones on because of all the noise, and nobody is meeting in person- or very few.

As they take my flexibility away - I will continue to be less flexible.
