Just came out of a meeting. Confirmed 3 days mandatory in office bankwide starting April 10 unless you have a full remote position.

Thanks. I’ll add that to the other twelve conflicting return to office guidance communications that we’ve received. Assume at this point that we are free to choose our favorite RTO path from among the dozen plans?

It’s not bank wide . That communication didn’t come out from Hr. It came out from the head of treasury services and then next day one for loan operations. I know several people in groups outside of those that still don’t have to go in at all, 4 times a quarter , 1 time a week etc. so again. Not bank wide

I get the argument that being in-office is what most employees expected when they were hired.

Here’s why that’s no longer relevant.

Over the past 5-6 years, this company has been cutting and cutting staff. In many areas, automation hasn’t offset this, nor has reduced demand for the services provided. So everyone is picking up more. And then more. And then more still.

Against that backdrop, allowing people to eliminate their commute wherever possible is literally the very least the company can do its people, who are working longer hours and are, quite often, always on.

So if they want everyone in the office, maybe the great leaders might consider fully staffing the place. That’s a fair trade-off.

Hope they do a better job of keeping the bathrooms clean because half of the time it looks like a septic tank exploded. Doors don’t lock on the stalls… Paper towels are out. Etc.

How about the lemming on the inter-web that wrote a blog talking about being positive about having to come into the office because he lost his Covid weight & thanks to extra steps& enjoys listening to podcasts while commuting and others that enjoy playing their games on their phone while riding the train…

Another reason why I don’t like being in the office… Being around these type of people

Manager told the team a week ago and emphasized that if we have something come up one week and can’t get those three days, we should make it up the next week. So long to ”flexibility”. What about in my location where sickness is running rampant? Are people gonna stay home to make it up later or bring it with them?

These execs are just so out of touch.
He is talking about the workday and describing what his day is most likely like to justify RTO - Not the average employee, and this one size fits all approach is just nonsensical.

Head of CAO on his townhall just reiterated 3 days in office - but slipped & said or maybe 4 for some…. Then said not that it’s in discussions.

It’s never gonna “return to normal”. That ship has sailed. Simply the tension between permanent fully remote hires and teammates coming in full time will pit haves against have nots and finish off the shredding of the culture. Destroying all morale is our only core competency.

3 days a week is the new norm and I honestly don’t mind, it’s still better than we had before COVID. I just wish all areas and managers had the same requirements, Operations always seems to get screwed but if you work in IT you can continue to work from home because you are more valuable. In addition to those managers making there people make up a sick day or vacation day on one of their in office todays, cut the BS and grow a pair. Your people work hard for you, treat them with some respect. Making up these days isn’t a corporate policy, it’s something you dreamt up as a way to emphasize the little power that you have. Grow the F up!

Our team in Manchester, UK is going up from 1 day to 2 day in May. Been told it is compulsory this week.

We seem to have been a bit lucky as most staff already on 2 days.
