Confirmed layoffs on 4/4 in US

I know of several people that have gotten the dreaded calendar invite for tomorrow 4/4 where they will all be told on a group call that they are being laid off (so cold). Not sure full scope but seems huge within Talent Acquisition. Know many people impacted. They were been dragged along for months with this action hanging over head. Let’s hope for a decent severance for them.

Seems like a VERY LARGE NUMBER of mature employees AGAIN. Arvind sending Jobs to his buddies in India, must have nice kick backs to go with millions in bonuses for him and his upper management friends.

40% of my team in Systems along with 30-40% of other teams put on re-deployment but as of April 4th our luck has run out. 30-days notice given to all that have not found a job, which is most folks. The kick in the head is IBM is not cutting the position. Most have moved to the new IBM support center in Costa Rica, India and Sofia. It's all about low cost and not about truly reducing jobs or restructuring. Years and years of experience and hard working folks being toss away. I listened to local managers openly discussing the hiring of new employees in India and Sofia while my colleagues are scrambling for jobs in the U.S.. It just another slimy IBM move with execs not having the guts to make a true announcement to the market. To add to all this the SVPs have clearly stated IBM needs to move more employees to customer facing roles. Meanwhile, I know of employees (such as TAs and TAMs) whose primary role is customer facing 24x7 that got the axe while their position went to Latin Americas. And then there are the all hands meeting with execs tell remaining folks to expedit engagement with the low cost centers to train them up. How callus can you get. I truly don't know how these soulless folks can live with themselves. Can't wait to see what follows to my colleagues who remain.

Entire IT Support Help desk in North America was let go. roughly 100 people. All located in Austin, including some employees from Toolbox and lots from talent aquisition.

So much for the big push to return to office....... Still processing it all, sad to see everyone gone, including myself.

I received the dreaded call today.. 30 days to find a job, 3 months severance! No REAL reason given. I feel tricked, used and betrayed.

As we navigate today’s competitive market, we continue to make thoughtful – but sometimes difficult – choices to match our talent footprint against the needs of our business, clients, partners, and our growth strategy.

This includes a workforce reduction which permanently affects your employment.

You are eligible to receive a lump sum separation payment equal to three months’ pay, along with Career Transition Services and other benefits.
Although departure dates may change based on business needs, the earliest departure date for any employee as a result of this resource action is May 4, 2023. Unless you have transferred to a new position within IBM, your last day worked will be May 4th 2023.

For you Systems and related folks - there is quite a few external jobs out there - particularly higher band - even from those FAANG et all that had significant layoffs.

They're more cautious now than a few months ago - but I was actively interviewing and snagged one.

So don't fret and spend your month on the extensive YL and O'Reilly working on what jobs in LinkedIn require that may be new or needing refreshing to you.

For me - yabadaba doo! (-- Fred Flintstone)

Systems "re-deployed" today and tomorrow. Not enough GOM positions.

Interestingly some folks apply for a number offshored that haven't been filled in 3 months. Gotta figure the wisdom of blind re-deployments.

My manager said it was only US. Almost 3/4 of my team affected today. Many with 20+ years here. Bloodbath is an accurate term.

Is this US only today? Any CDN or Euros affected where severance is different? From
what I’m seeing US is 30 days notice, + 3 months severance + 6 months health insurance.

I was just let go after 22 years with IBM. Supposedly a large group is being laid off.

Let go today after 23 years. I was a release manager and they are moving that work offshore.

I'm in consulting and got hit. Been with the company a long time and my compa was over 1 so knew it was only a matter of time. 30 days until separation, 3 month severance package.

Change is good, on to the next thing

How many folks total are in TA across North America. Second question is how many folks in TA are within 75 miles of Raleigh. Third question is are folks who are outside of what’s considered a commutable distance being offered a redeploy

I was notified on the call today (TA) along with the majority of US TA that is not within a commutable distance to Raleigh. Still awaiting severance details - said they'd be emailed to us after the call and nobody has received yet. It us what it is and it will be fun watching their new "TA hub" model fail from the sidelines in a few months. This is a perfect example of how IBM will always remain an underdog in the tech space. Poor decisions continue to be made that keep driving them further and further into the ground.

Consulting (US) just kicked off their new "US Productivity Management" program yesterday, which is the new term for Bench PIPs. Lots of people suddenly finding themselves on a PIP for low utilization per the new terms. Note that HR is making a desperate attempt to change the name of this program from "BPIP" to "PIP," because they want to place 100% of the fault directly on the employee - and not on the fact that work isn't being sold.

There ARE also lay-offs happening today (4/4) in Consulting (US). 30 days to find a new job within IBM, or you're gone.

From what I've been able to piece together, there are 3 separate things happening this week - Bench PIPs (Consulting), Regular PIPs (everywhere), RAs (HR, TA, other back office areas). Don't be surprised if you get conflicting reports from different people who may only be aware of one.

Yep, today's the day! Just got off the call with my manager. Last day in 30 days plus 3 months severance. It was good news for me, but so sorry for those who have been hit unfairly.

When I was at Nortel they had an all employee in person meeting and announced to the room of 300+ employees that half of them were being laid off that day. You picked up an envelope at the back of the room that told you which room to go to and that determined your fate.

Are these the same recruiters that we hear constant complaints about in reddit.com/r/ibm?

Re: “TA is mostly contractors” - this is false. Also the contractors were let go a while ago. All impacted right now are regular IBM employees. Many of whom are top performers that have been here 10+ years. Above comment re: outsourcing and RTP is 100% right. This has been handled so horribly.

I thought most of the Talent Acquisition folks were contractors anyway.

This is correct. I’ve been a top performing recruiter in the US for 10+ years and will be let go because IBM is sending the jobs to Costa Rica and other low cost of labor countries and ramping up more bots to give hiring managers a “self service” kind of hiring experience. Apparently they’ve decided to keep some of talent acquisition employees who live in Raleigh,NC but the rest of us are out of luck. I don’t know why anyone would want to work for a company with this kind of plan.

VP of Talent Acquisition announced she is leaving last week.
