Don't make a promise to me regarding promotion and fail to deliver if you don't want me to walk out. I will not tolerate having a carrot dangled in front of me only to have it snatched away at the eleventh hour. I don't care if it was made by you in good faith, only to be quashed by upper management. That is of no consequence to me. The bottom line is that a promise was made, and it was not fulfilled.

@OP here. I thought the better of it. I’m rethinking it and am going to try to schmooze a little while and see what happens. It is all political so I need to learn the game. I’m too close to give up now.

If it helps, most people are shafted regularly throughout their career and also experience the unexpected promotion, bonus or huge raise.
You sound like you were looking for a large promotion. At that level all is political and you don’t belong there unless you can play that game.
Use Peakon...haha. I was one of the lucky ones that got let go in Jan. More money and less stress with a company that actually has a culture and happy clients. Amazing what can happen when leadership executes and is engaged. I'm just thankful to be gone.
