I dunno. I talk to friends in other industries and they are not working more than their 40 hours. Evenings, weekends, & frantically reacting to chaos.
This place is a sh-t show

Bet your team just loves you.

That’s on management for not having appropriate Or sufficient staffing levels. Not on this guy for working his hours and going home for the day.

Some people are go getters, some people shirk work. Unfortunately at the Bank HR performance processes are meaningless so we all reap the same results.

Not weird at all. It’s an utterly normal progression for a first job.

My manager gets angry with us when we log all of our time in PPM. none of us log our full time.

100% of your time should be logged in ppm no matter what. Falsifying business records is illegal.

Have an OT log saved at your home computer. Tell your manager that you have log on overtime weekly. If they don't agree to pay OT or let you take longer lunch break, you can bring the OT log to Department of Labor to give BNY a lawsuit. Tell your manager that you are not bluffing. Any lawsuit will be an headache for managers.

Yikes- I never had a lunch break and rarely worked less than 10 hours daily. Bathroom breaks were a luxury- where in the company did you all work?

I have a log of OT that I worked, my manager just told me to take a longer lunch break to make up the extra hours worked prior. If things gets late this week, I will tell my manger that I was taking a longer lunch break to catch up the OT that I worked last week. Don't let them abuse you.

40 hours has always been the standard work week.

Nope. Not at BNYM - not until 2 years or so ago.

when i joined BNY a few years ago i was a non exempt FTE which nowadays to me sounds weird why they had me that way. anyway i was milking them so hard. it was nice getting my regular paycheck and an additional 1000 bucks. lasted about a year till they changed me back to exempt.

Assuming you do 9 to 5, I’d recommend blocking your calendar 430 and after. No 5pm meetings. 430 is when you unpack for the day and try to plan your next day. Likewise, nothing before 9. It depends on your job of course but your pay should be based on 8 hours of work. If there’s too much for you to handle within 8 hours it’s not your problem. Keep passing the buck to your mgmt. if you’re in a situation where you feel you must work 10+ hours a day, make sure your manager lets you take off a few hours early next week.

When weekly hours were changed from 37.5 to 40, I cut my lunch hour to 30 minutes instead of 60. Then after a few months I started increasing it by a few minutes each week. After about six months I was taking a 45-50 minute lunch break. My supervisor never said a word to me. Did that for at least 4 or so years until I quit last year.

There's no such thing as overtime for exempt employees.

‘My salary is based on 40 hours (use to be 37.5 hours till 2 years ago when these crooks. Increased our hours w/o addl comp ) - anything over 40 is free labor which I’m not giving them. Matter of fact - I give 37.5 as my offer letter states.

I never worked an hour overtime in 15 years. I never understood the concept of working overtime without being paid which appears to be a common theme in the corporate world.
