Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

No work to do

I was hired about 7months ago for my new position(Been working in the bank for many years)that was a big change for me(from band 6 to band 5).I was hoping not only to make more money, but to learn new skills and get busy.Well,it turned out that till this day,I still don't know what my functions are, nothing to do,I only attend meetings and taking notes and I feel useless. My team is spread across the states(I'm not in the tech world),my boss and teammates are fine, but I don't like getting paid for doing nothing.Has anyone experienced the same thing?I'm afraid of being let go and also I feel uncomfortable that my teammates have work to do,but not me.I'll be waiting for my 1 year and look for something else.

I was in the same boat until layoff.

We have H1Bs needing all the special visibilities for visa sponsorship. The best jobs are reserved for them.

Our roles are to get them going, answer their questions and transfer knowledge.
My manager called this "thought leadership".

Are you a D&I employee? Maybe you are just making up the numbers.

Go out to the training site. Learn a skill. Learn two skills. You have an opportunity to train while getting paid. At least you can show that you did something at year end.

At B5 you shouldn’t have to be micromanaged. Do something about it.

I think the OP is setting him/her self for failure. if you don't have anything to do then discuss it with your manager....otherwise at mid year or end of year discussion, they might hold you responsible saying why you didn't tell before.

@1qnl+1mj8vu9i You’re right. They should ask the Band 4s on the team if they knew it all after 7 months then ask themselves why they don’t have anything to do.

What does the rest of your team do and what did they tell you to learn when you started? Maybe learning SQL, excel, or some other skill your team uses that you haven’t yet (or if you have, you haven’t shown it). Actions speak louder than words. People will only give you real responsibility when prove yourself. And if you aren’t doing anything but the rest of your team is, odds are it’s not going unnoticed.

I would say if they don't lift the hiring freeze you might be stuck in this role. Also you are not the only one with this situation. We have other departments where the work load has dropped.

This place has a horrible reputation for being mismanaged by these buffoons we have as leaders. This place has so many unqualified and incompetent leaders. Many of these people don't know their azz from a hole in the wall. Most of them just dress up to look like they know what they are doing but don't know damn thing about getting things done through others. This place continues to disappoint me daily. This by far is the worst company I have ever worked for in my life. The other companies I have worked for had way more competent leaders and well developed plan of succeeding there. This place just promotes kiss azz people.
