Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Human Resources and RTO

Anyone else notice how there is still barely anyone back in the building from Hr or even in office at all still. Yet the rest of us are being forced in. They were also the first ones to run their butts home at start of covid and not care that nobody else was getting moved off site to safety

Hopefully you realize that there are many dozens of HR Offices. People think that their aisle is the Bank.

not sure about your locale, but the building I am in is packed, especially on wednesdays, with mondays, tuesdays, and thursdays a close second.

Still room to sit, but folks are basically every other seat.. very noisy, but to say it's empty is just incorrect, especially there

Sure you would. After bragging about a lifetime of slacking to maximize your free personal time you’d now work around the clock without pay.

Talk about self delusion.

I don’t care about this company at all

And thanks to how this company treats, employees, I care just enough about my job to do the minimum to keep getting my paycheck

On the bright side, HR has been so decimated that they couldn’t even execute a simple sub 1% layoff in January.

It’s just what people do when they care about their job and company.

I too call B.S. on HR working their tails off. All HR interactions are through a byzantine series of portals created by Mellon when McGuinn sold the retail bank and decided to invest the money into “HR outsourcing”, which was the hot business fad back in 2000. Even IBM was getting into it Mellon had absolutely no expertise in it but bought numerous small HR firms such as Buck, etc and cobbled them all together into a convoluted mishmosh of websites requiring numerous passwords and hokey single sign ons to external vendors, etc. it s an absolute mess.

So we likely have only a handful of customers using these and employees have to deal with largely unusable convoluted HR systems. HR themselves do nothing but answer questions through their portal but it takes days or weeks to resolve any issue because so many of these sites are barely functional and there aren’t enough people.

The only coup that I’ve seen was when BONY raided our overfunded pension plan to make their plan solvent. Left most Pittsburgh employees with thirty cents on the dollar of what we earned and were promised.

Yeah, but not after New York Human Resources stole from Mellon’s overfunded pension plan in 2008 to make their plan solvent. Most Mellon workers are getting less than a third of what we were promised.

After NY HR stole our money NY staff still aren’t happy?

@1ich+1n7CRYQ3 - she’s full of cr-p is what she is. They barely worked 8 hours, we’re never available when they were in office and cannot answer anything. If you have issues brought to them it’s always ask someone else . Waste of space

@1iun+1n7CRYQ3 - hey Princess I know exactly what I’m talking about. My Hr office is still black. So take your own advice and know what you’re talking about before you “spout off”. Want a cookie for going in and accomplishing nothing ? Cause HR does nothing beneficial and cannot answer a damn question so take a seat

@1enz, you'd be surprised what can be accomplished with a little dedication and effort. Such as learning the difference between "your" and "you're".

First, love of job, second, a work ethic and third the recognition, promotions and career level salary increases which naturally follow the first two. Why is everything positive here made into negativity?

I would be genuinely surprised if I had accumulated more than 10 hours of overtime throughout my entire professional career. However, if I were employed by a small family office and the owner was facing financial difficulties, I would readily offer my assistance without any hesitation. On the other hand, we are discussing a company that is generating billions of dollars in revenue. In this case, my contribution wouldn't significantly impact their already substantial turnover.

The best cure for envy is to decide to work harder until you have the skills to get what you want. Have you started to apply for positions at Goldman Sachs? If not, why not? My guess is that the positions for which you qualify at G.S. will pay similar pay scales. If they pay higher it will be due to regional cost of living.

Clock watchers are doomed to failure. You need to find what you’re meant to do and work at something that you love. Self assessment is key and it’s best to start by considering your hobbies and interests.

Of course this will be voted down here. When you down vote you might want to consider why you reject positive advice.

Absolutely untrue. Long time off and on employee here and in many banks and F.I.s, contracting, etc and recently retired… I’ve hustled and busted my bu-t and rewards always followed on multiple teams in multiple areas and so in multiple banks. It’s all about your attitude and only working at jobs which you love. Every move that I’ve made was because I saw an even cooler project that I wanted to do. If you’re not doing something that you love you will have the defeatist attitude that you express.

It’s unfair to knock the HR staff in the trenches.

It’s not their fault that the CHRO doesn’t really know HR or show any commitment/savvy toward strengthening the culture.

Over the last five years, HR has been cut and cut and cut some more as everything is made self-service. It’s been lousy for everyone.

HR at this dump is nothing more than a propaganda vehicle for management.

Nothing is for the benefit of the employees.

This isn’t really the kind of place you can try to hustle in or put in 12 hours a day and expect any reasonable recognition. The most you’ll get is more work. You’re not going to impress anyone if you’re putting in so many extra hours.

The silver lining with RTO is that people are pushing back on meetings scheduled after 5 or before 8.

What could someone in HR possibly be doing for 12 hours. To my area HR has been nameless, faceless group since Mellon coup

If you are working 12 hour days you are being taken advantage of. At one point in time I did it until I realized just how little they appreciated it and I wasn’t going to be compensated or rewarded for it. Those days are done. I enjoy my family, home and personal life too much.

Most exempt employees work 3,000 hour years. Workers who think of themselves as hourly act like it, count the minutes and never have a career track, let alone a rewarding and well paid career.

Why would you work 12 hour days when your paid for 40 hours a week

by

Post ID: @1enz+1n7CRYQ3

Wow. I am in hr. In office 3 days a weeks sometimes 4 as is the rest of the teams in Pittsburgh. Work 9 hrs in office plus more when we get home. Typical day is about 12 hrs. We have been drastically affected by layoffs. Team of 5 now a team if 2 but still all the same work plus that of all those that are now gone. more. So know what you are talking about before you spout off.
