Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

IT consulting gigs

I've heard from various people that B of A no longer is contract hiring separate roles for testing, etc and that the PMs are required to do it as well as a lot of other things not ordinarily under the PM "umbrella" as part of their role, working weekends to fulfill the project. Can anyone opine if this is still going on?

The "PMs" that have been brought in over the last 10 years are not nearly as capable as the very qualified PMs we hired in the past. A PM can make or break a project. Sadly I have met dozens of PMs with real experience and understand how to manage a project, but they are not given proper training or assistance before running solo.

Has anyone else had to "train" their PM over the span of a project?

PM's aren't the testers in my area. We still have testers. If you want a cr-p job that gets dumped on, try app management. They might be the most miserable people in tech.

PM are just good at conducting meetings and checking project status, much like the SMs of Agile teams. Business thinks PMs run the show.

PMs, for what they bring to a typical project, are way overpaid and overvalued. Makes sense to have them doing something productive.

Very few PMs have the ability to interpret the technical status of a project independently and simply regurgitate timelines and flip something red if that timeline doesn't hit. ie zero value

Good news for Brian. Need to shave some money somewhere so he can make $30 million next year.

I'm a high ranking tech exec and can confirm that role to functions are being consolidated. Cost cutting continues....but, if we hit targets, I get a nice bonus. So expect it to continue
