Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

QUITE WORKING WEEKENDS AND EVENINGS

Let this be a wakeup call for those of you working late into the evenings, weekends, and while on vacation. You mean nothing to these fools. you are an expense which they will cut as soon as they can, without remorse or regret.

I've read many posts on this board talking about how they worked this past weekend, only to be let go on Tuesday without without your 401k match (just days short of getting it), bonus, and having to wait 2 days to find out their severance (insurance payout) package.

These people running this dump are despicable. Show them the same amount of respect they show us and quit working for 'free' - you will not save yourself by being their B*tch.

@OP

Are you saying that you are Quite Working or not Quite working?

Would like to understand your poor.

This is common in Banking for all exempt employees, and the moment that you demonstrate that you have a head in your shoulders you will become exempt. The good news is that it indicates that you’re on a career track. Keep putting in extra effort and you will be rewarded.

Don’t feel sorry for us workers in Oriskany. We’ve known for four full years that this was coming. The vast majority of us from way back when relaxed at work as even as we job hunted. The others simply relaxed knowing that it would end with a year of SUB.

Thanks to Charlie pretty much all of us are happy with our decisions.

Now that want you to give 30/60/90 days notice if you intend to resign......NEVER. You don't give that kind of notice....People were dropped on Tuesday like a bad habit. If you died today, they will have your job posted before your obituary is printed! I feel sorry for the folks in Oriskany. All that effort, only to be let go..

@1ilm, my group was ALWAYS supportive of each other when we had health and family issues.
That being said, I cut short my short term disability to come back to work after emergency surgery because I knew I could help minimize issues for my co-workers. Even though I wasn't 100%, I was still a huge help. A few months later Todd awarded me with 11 months of sub pay.

The sheer fragility of GenX down through GenZ does not bode well for the future of America. The average length of time for the rise and fall of a society is 200 years. We’re seeing this play out big time over the last 20 years.

As always the truth is downvoted here. You might want to reassess your work ethic.

The bank has no compassion for anyone going through illness, bereavement, family issues etc. Still expected to make office days without exception.
I'm done working weekends, late nights and being expected to put work before my family and my health.

Easier said than done, but I 100% agree. I fell into this trap the last two years because I didn't want to come back from vacation with a huge barrage of emails nor did I want to see any big surprises 8am the next day so I would often check emails 8pm the previous night. Some of these were even calls!

It's my own stupidity, but if your merit increases and bonuses are minimal, working those extra hours won't make a difference. If the work volume is too much, pass the buck to your manager to deal with the fallout. As a manager, things were less flexible for me, but I found a much better job last year and am happier for it.

You have me for 8 hours. I will always be as efficient and effective as I can be, but if something needs to get done, don't wait until 4:55 pm to give it to me. Best I can do is deal with it first thing the next day.

Yes, I too read that sole post on this board about how they were asked to work this past weekend, only to be let go on Tuesday.

One toxic manager doesn’t make a pattern.

I disagree. I’ve always found that hard work leads to promotions, bonuses and nice raises. The Bank does value hard, dedicated workers. You’ll never know unless you try, but I think that your attitude betrays you.

My body is not functioning right after working 60 hours a week. There is so much a human body can work during a week.

You can be the slacker of the team and be let go of. You could be the best performer and be let go of. You could be compensated the most out of all team members and be let go of. It’s not worth the amount of stress and anxiety. I was spared from the layoffs but will seriously start looking elsewhere. I suggest everyone does the same.

Regardless of employer, if you work overtime without compensation, you are an utter tool.
