Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Age

For those of us who were laid off, how many of us were the oldest person in their group? I’m Gen X for reference, but was the oldest in my group.

@2jes, I'm sure your position was given to another POC in India. Does that make you feel any less racist?

Hey I wasn't the oldest in my group, but I was the only person of color who got laid off. We know it's a numbers game (i know i wasn't the highest paid in my group) i had exceed or meet expectations in all reviews.
Intially we hav 5 person group and now it's 3 person team. The first person who was moved to another dept (female and POC) (almost laid off) earlier in the year. Then of course this past week I was laid off. Anyone thoughts I should do an EEOC claim?

I know of several forced retirements and quite a few riffs of older folks. I think it’s incredibly tacky of the Bank to lay off so many last week and then today post to LinkedIn “Looking for a career where your potential knows no bounds?” Really? How callous can a company be, “an employer of choice for job seekers.” Beware - You reap what you sow… and I hope their clients start to realize what a sleazy company this has turned into.

If they’re actually cutting Boomers then they’re clearly going to find it really easy to cut GenX on down.

Gen X workers are really up against it because they simply cannot deliver as the boomers did and still do, sadly Millennials and GenZ are even weaker in work ethic and education. This will not end well for America which is not in permanent decline.

Also Gen Xer, but in January I saw heinous cuts of managers over 55. Couldn't believe it.
Said nothing, but was shocked.
