Accommodation- learn something new!

Learned something new that might interest some: Employers sometimes think they’re fine to request more medical information than they’re entitled to when it comes to accommodations. Employers need only enough info from you or your doctor to show (1) that there’s a disability, and (2) the employee needs an accommodation.

Also, employers should not be getting periodic updates when the initial documentation states that the condition is not going to change.

And your neighbors at work may not be your friends...

Congrats on waking up to this. People who don't understand this go head and speak every detail about why they are calling in sick, rather than I won't be at work. I never disclose ANYTHING, unless pressed. Some people have no common sense. If you have a medical issue, that's how u address it, I have a medical issue, I'll be out until Yada yada.... get wit the program.

When I applied for FT WFH my doc wrote a letter that barely covered a third of the paper. She cited my medical condition and how it applied to ADA laws. Zero discussion from HR or mgmt once they found out that my condition could have led to a vehicle accident with any number of possible outcomes.

HR and mgmt both knew about my medical issues, however if I wanted a job I had to return to the office. Fortunately all parties got lucky. To knowingly take on the risk and liability was a poor business decision.

Make sure you have FMLA for yourself and every qualified family member per condition.
Make appointments for any and all self care you have been neglecting for "the job"
Take all the time you need while some departments are slow to take care of you & your family.
Take classes, volunteer, network and expand your resume.
Once the market shifts, you will be mentally & physically equipped to look for new employment internally or externally.

Your doctor should know how to write it so there is no further question.

Recently dealt with Medical Accommodation (6 month) extension and was a terrible experience with Life Events person handling my case. She was extremely rude to me and it was delayed over and over again, according to her because she couldn't reach my Dr's office, so I reached out to them. Dr's office called me to let me know they HAD been in touch with her and she would not accept everything they gave her, also said she was very rude, AND actually told them that she only cared about making everyone return to office. Needless to say, a well-worded email to her and her direct manager resulted in immediate approval. BTW, she wanted me to sign a medical records release form for them to keep on hand....ummm, that was a big NO from me.

You can report ada complains here:
https://www.ada.gov/file-a-complaint/#:~:text=You%20can%20reach%20the%20ADA,610%2D1264%20(TTY).
Or
You can call the EEOC at 1-800-669-4000 if you think the law may have been violated

Note: it's an election year, you can also contact your local representatives

I'm currently applying for one and the HR representative wanted DETAILED information on my condition that went over what was required. I felt like I was on trial when my doctor provided all the medical info required. The bank is really making it a terrible experience and makes you feel bad for having a disability.
