Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Do you have a plan B if you’re laid off?

Because if you don't, you should start working on it.

@aqmf, there are PLENTY of jobs that pay over $70k without a degree. In fact many pay that much PLUS benefits including a nice pension. Look into the NYS department of corrections or the NYS troopers. Although, I'm sure you'll have another excuse why you can't do that.

I'm independently wealthy and don't need this job. It makes it much more bearable. It's quite simple if you just spend less money than you make.

Don’t see anything negative in this thread.

To the poster about not being able to get a $70K job without a degree…. this makes you exactly the same as everybody else. Why not take advantage of the tuition reimbursement? Or work two jobs? I worked full time while going to school full time and it still took well over a decade to pay off my student loans.

This isn’t negative… it’s life. Don’t set up barriers for yourself. Envy is what’s negative.

This post and thread highlight how disconnected some people are from empathizing with others. Same as another negative post about company “lifers”.

I stay at BNYM because I don’t have a degree and it’s hard to get an interview for a position with another company that pays more than $70k without a degree.

I live paycheck to paycheck due to having to pay all household expenses and caring for an elderly parent. We both have medical issues that take quite a toll on our lives and finances.

No, I don’t have a plan B. If Im laid off, I’ll be devastated. I’ll, of course, apply to at least 20 positions a day in hopes of landing something new. But in all likelihood, it will take many months, even a year to land something. My worst fear is not being able to get the needed medical care for my parent and becoming destitute to the point where my parent is placed in a run down uncaring nursing home where we know neglect is rampant. I don’t have other family members that would help or step up to offer support.

Remember that people are suffering because of the constant layoffs, stop making light of people’s struggles, stop trolling , and be better.
