Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Finally got a new job

"Only" took me seven months. I don't know what I would have done if I had been laid off and received all these rejections for months. People, start looking right now, just in case. You don't have to accept an offer if you get it, but make sure you have options when the next round of cuts hits.

I took a couple weeks to clear my head per say. 7+ months of SUB payment. Once the two weeks were over to clear my head , i've applied to couple firms and I got one interview coming up and another recruiter called me. So I'm lucky in a sense I got interviews. but my thought should i enjoy my time off a little longer before I start applying?

They say that you need to allow a month for every $10K…. so Operations clerical for $20K would be a few months of looking. A displaced $100K employee would take 10 months. Sounds harsh, but can’t imagine a $100K per year employee without a rainy day fund. When I was self employed I maintained a $50,000 rainy day fund and really needed it two times. Careful budgeting is key to financial peace.

Congrats OP.

I started interviewing in August 2022, very casually and within three months, I got a new offer with much higher pay. I wasn't at risk for a layoff because they already nuked our team, but I did see in September and October that things really got unbearable so I made the jump immediately.

Knew of two colleagues I was very close with to get let go. One didn't start looking until weeks before their severance was up while the other took a few weeks to themselves and then started searching hard. Guess who is still looking for a job...

Good advice starting applying now, even if you're not actively looking as you will be getting some practice on interviews. Best of luck!
