A company cannot layoff people who do not work for them. We do release contractors all of the time and their agency places them elsewhere.

Especially Contractors! I'd assume your last day is Friday..... Unless your under 25 and work with a bunch of people over 45....then you are safe
absolutely. budgets cut everywhere so contracts def need to be cut whether fixed bid or T&M
