May I ask what DEI stands for?
It’s based on performance and your mgrs recommendation to put you in a more senior position. If one is even an option on your team
A promotion within your team? Be careful - even if you do get it, it will take a while before you get the updated paycheck while new responsibilities take place pretty quickly. A friend was promoted to M, but it took him over a year to get the pay increase and then he was let go because the group had a re-org.
It’s all about the su-k up! If you kissed their feet and gone to every DEI event then you may get promoted. Doing your job well has nothing to do with it!

If you want to get promoted next year, have the conversation with your manager at your review this year.
