Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Not valued as professionals

It is so sad to work in a system which doesn't appreciate hard working people, and leaves us with no satisfaction from professional achievements.

I feel that the only agency I am left with is to quit. Otherwise, I feel reduced to office supplies. I do not feel like a professional. I do not feel valued. I have worked for 25 years in banking, and all I am left with is the constant anxiety that I will be let go forever from industry when I become a spent goods, which is always before one reaches normal retirement age.

Nope I just checked the dictionary j*kss. He clearly meant “Alternative” or “Avenue”.

Our employees universally seem to be grammatically challenged.

You might consider consulting a dictionary before you decide someone is nonsensical in a post

@OP

“I feel that the only agency I am left with is to quit”.

Not quite sure what you mean by that as it’s clearly nonsensical, but have you considered contacting contracting Agencies? You can get hired in a flash and if you show up on time and accomplish projects as a contractor you will be doing quite well for yourself. You’ll likely to meet many people, learn much more and often begin to find lucrative freelance opportunities.

I think that you’re in for a nice surprise when you start job searching. Research the company before the interview. Be positive and don’t take a step backwards. Trust your skillset and don’t be negative when they ask why you left or why displaced. It’s very easy to take the high road. Literally every bank or other large corporation knows the issues with BNYM. You’ll look good in comparison to those other interviewees when they bash the Bank.

As another victims of the over 55s I agree with you completely. I’ve gone from ‘one of the most capable on the team’ to ‘sorry but skillsets don’t match’ in the space of months. No coincidence that I had a significant birthday at that time
