And how could a non-compete work if you were laid off? If you quit, maybe … but not laid off.
Non-compete clauses are generally not enforceable.
This may not apply to you. I’m in tech and I did not find a reminder of a non-compete I had signed in my separation docs. I don’t know if non-competes are common on the business side though.
