Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

If you leave, make sure you have no BK stock in your 401K

I've been at my new place for over a year but only a few months ago, I moved my 401K balance to an IRA. I forgot about 5% of my portfolio was BK stock so unfortunately that's a separate process. Computershare is kind of a pain to deal with it and i'm pretty sure they lost my paperwork in the mail.

Does anyone know where people who say "Anybody knows" instead of forming an actual question went to school?

Before converting stock in your 401k to cash you should talk to a financial planner to see if it's worth it to take advantage of NUA for taxes.

@jor

And my all time favorite D.E.I. Question:

Anybody knows where do I find my social security number?

Life is so hard for those who ask…

“Anybody knows do they keep it here…”. referring to their own Paystub
“Anybody knows do they keep it at their bank or ours .. referring to their own Paystub
“Anybody knows the email where they sent to me … on a displacement
“Anybody knows a Employee ID for me and how to get it… on a displacement

If you have a brokerage account, contact them. They should be able to arrange the transfer from ComputerShare into a new retirement account.

you dont need any paperwork. The account is linked to your SSN you should be able to reset any account using that information by calling customer service.

There has been no need to keep Employer stock in your 401K since Enron crashed in 2000 and employees lost their company match and all savings. Ever since then you have never been required to take your match in company stock.

And who in their right mind would hold BK stock anyway?

That was 24 years ago.

Why are our coworkers so baffled by RSUs, 401K matches and rollovers?

I’d love to be a fly on the wall when they call the wrong help desks.

Managing your retirement assets will only grow more challenging every year. Do what you need to do to get your affairs in order to get organized. Assume that you don’t even do your own taxes, right?

Why not start a relationship with an H&R Block or other Financial Services representative to get your affairs sorted out and organized?

It’s so easy to get your 401k and also your RSUs.

If you lost your paperwork learn a life lesson.
