Anyone know why, how and where is this platform operating model idea comes from?
I am hearing from our team it will be implemnted in February, and it will be huge changes on the way we work and operate.

What’s funny (or not) is the email that just went out to Corp Trust from Cecile about PODs/P-M and at the end she says ‘let’s start getting exited’. That sounds about right, Exited, not excited. Freudian, indeed.

@5rov, sounds like the way we handle agile for our system changes. We have all the overhead of agile but don't have the basic benefits such as incremental changes and hands-on user involvement during the development cycle.

I discussed about this program with my manager on 1 on 1. Overall I'm sceptical for this solution.

Long story short: there are two typical management styles in multiple industries.

  • Lean management - you can have high level structure in company (employee -> team leader -> manager -> director -> senior director etc), work focus on process standarization and optimalization for most efficient results.
  • Agile - where usually structure is flat (3-4 levels in company from lowest employee to CEO), focus more on employee self management and reaction for customer requests and leadership should be more "servant" for people delivering value (of course we know in practive it's almost never achived).

In BNY they want implement Agile without reduction of structure including all directors, Managing Directors etc. Result of their plan is this P-M - they create agile teams with sime product owners, Release engineers and other roles + few additional levels above to keep managers/directors/senior directors controlling budget and costs. This monster just connect some parts of Lean and Agile which do not fit together too well.

I'm not convinced it will be effective, especially when it's big change in working style and not fit financial industry.

Let's wait and see what funny results will be achieved.

There is an EC member who is a former McKinsey partner.

My manager drops PLATFORMS with every other word. Still don’t know what it is and still don’t care. I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and saving BNY from fines every day.

They should just appoint a McKinsey consultant to the EC …

Which EC member(s) are ultimately running (I would say leading but that’s a joke considering how few of us know what it actually MEANS to our day-to-day work) this P-M show?

Wait! There is an article published this week that says we are already changing our platform plans! (Not joking, being serious).

The Platform Operating Model is asset servicing tech is pretty much 2 paper cups connected with a string.

Basically, someone in the C suite just discovered what Agile is and decided this is the only way to work. Course, no one in the LOBs have a single clue how this affects them because no one is talking.

Encouraging start to model all about enabling collaboration, eh?

Just like the old saying “nobody ever got fired for buying IBM”, hiring McKinsey gives execs plausible deniability to the board if their implemented recommendations go south. They were just taking advise from the industry experts.

Everybody involved with leading this McKinsey initiative to rearrange the deck chairs on the titanic should immediately be terminated without severance. It’s more proof of how disconnected and out of touch Senior Mgt is.

Tell me… how can 22 year old drive by McKinsey consultants help long time managers. The money we waste is sickening.

I’ve been to company-wide meetings on it and read the stuff on MySource but until I see it explained for my LOB and my team and see some visuals on who actually does what in new model and how MY role will change it makes absolutely ZERO sense. It’s all pie in the sky and vagueness to me.

@ atb Go into MySource and search for Platforms Operating Model. McKinsey is consultant (yes, they’re back). Changing how we do everything. Some of it going back to the way we used to do it. It’ll happen in waves over the coming year or so. Some teams already in it. Tied to the Lighthouse stuff already going on. If your team isn’t impacted yet you will be soon.
