Love it, @gro. Make your manager prioritize. I can do this, but I’ll have to NOT do that. You pick.
I lived a variation on this. They kept cutting and cutting my team but — yes! — expecting more and more work from us. This was being driven by the person on the EC we reported into. We were told we could never use lack of staffing as an excuse.
It’s insanity and will drive you into an early grave if you let it. We lost almost all the good people after grinding them into the ground.
Meet with your manager to discuss what changes will have to be made to avoid burning out and losing people you need and to set realistic expectations with clients. And every time your boss drops a new project on you, gently mention you’ll schedule some time to discuss what will have to give.
Keep on them, making it their problem to help solve. If those above you took away your people, they have to take away some work!
