Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

BNY Mellon still worth it?

Hi Everyone,

I just have a general question to ask. With the Lake Mary, FL office expanding, does anyone see if BNY Mellon is worth applying to for jobs? My background is in KYC, AFC, and other types of risk management. I am open to do front or middle office work. I’ve been wanting to go to operations for a while, but don’t know where to start.

I have been at my Financial Institution for far too long. I just feel like it’s time for a change. This and I want to be closer to Orlando too.

But with the news of layoffs I’ve been hearing. I’m worried I could be jeopardize my stability that I have for now. Any advice, thoughts, etc. is welcomed. Thank you.

Wow… of all the things that are wrong with the Bank, “ This place is boring,” sure isn’t one of them. You have got to be kidding me.

@OP you were very thoughtful in your post and your update post as well, as you can see from the person who has an obsession with University of Phoenix (guessing they lost out on a promotion to a UoP grade or something), and the other id--t who keeps going in & on about ‘back in my day … 41 years ago’ and is a complete douche about everything - why would you even want to work here?? Of these two people actually work at BNYM that’s really disturbing and depressing - like everything else around here. Wishing you luck in your search.

Nonsensical post… Doesn’t know the difference between a prospectus and an annual report.

Tell us about this “annual prospectus” LOL. Is BNYM now a mutual fund?

Allow me to guess.. University of Phoenix grad?

Hi Everyone,

It’s the Original Poster again. I appreciate all of the replies. It looks like BNY Mellon will be a pass for now when I start searching for work/jobs. Also, there was one commenter who posted an optimistic response. I thought their response was interesting and it sounds like they probably worked or is working at the Lake Mary, FL office.

I don’t understand why everyone downvoted them. Maybe they had alright experiences and it worked for them. I know things from what I see in the news and here are not good with confusing RTO requirements and all, but I am open to all sorts of views. Both positive and negative all while being realistic.

As always, good luck everyone. I hope this will settle down at BNY Mellon soon and things will get better for y’all.

Take care everybody.

This place has NEVER had work/life balance.

I'd only try to work here if I was desperate, otherwise look elsewhere. This place is boring, I hate waking up extra early 3x a week to drive to the city for no reason. I want to quit so bad but I need the income.

It’s a hard no. While this place used to be pretty good in terms of work/life balance (
At the cost of low pay), a lot has changed in the past 6-7 years.

Work/life balance is no longer a thing but the pay hasn’t kept up. Plus several perks have gone away

Lake Mary is a pretty good location for BNYM comparatively but if you’re ambitious you’ll get bored and frustrated here quickly.

It's a 4 hour drive from Lake Mary to Miami. That's a sign of an *** kisser

People here will say no, but if you work really hard, 12 to 14 hour workdays and 10 to 14 more hours on the weekends, you too may get a 2.0 % raise.

At the same time, the CEO may be a 30% raise.

(Don’t believe me, read the annual prospectus).

My advice, don’t do it.

Unfortunately the position you are looking for is not in Lake Mary, Florida, but Pune, India (or will be soon)!!!

Don’t apply here unless you’re desperate…

From a personal perspective, I'd be very careful about Florida. Insurance companies have started cancelling homeowner policies due to hurricanes and renters insurance is a lot more expensive compared to the Northeast. Plus if you are laid off from BNY in Lake Mary there isn't a lot of other banks you can go to. The expansion in Lake Mary is more than likely only helping the employer with tax breaks

Current RTO requirement is 3 days a week, or a min. of 60% in office factoring in vacation/sick/company paid holidays (ex: 20 business days per 4 week reporting period, vacation 3 days = 10 in office days). If you fail to meet the RTO policy you’ll get written up with 2nd warning a termination. There is no training at BNYM either, so you have to be very independent with learning & management is usually too busy to help. Lake Mary office is under construction, so seating is limited. Once Lake Mary is complete, they will probably require 4 days in office.

Hello everyone, I’m the Original Poster to this thread. Thank you for your honest insights. I’m employed still by my current company and have been looking around because, my current role isn’t what I had expected. Too unorganized, no proper training, terrible manager, and my well-being for the last 4 months has went down the drain.

I’ve been lurking around this thread and it looks like BNY Mellon is going through lots of organizational changes. I’m guessing your Return To Office is now 3 days/week in office 2 days/week at home? Or is in office full time?

I’ll keep looking/lurking around in the mean time. It looks like not just at BNY Mellon, but many Banks or any company in Financial Services are doing layoffs, restructuring or out sourcing in general.

Good luck everybody. I hope things work out for y’all.

Don’t do it. People are being fired left and right, or giving notice because of strict RTO policies. The company is all over the place at the moment and not being transparent with reorganization changes that are coming.

If you’re not desperate for a new job (like you’re unemployed and need a paycheck) don’t come here.
