Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

BK Shares

What happens to the BK shares in our fidelity accounts if we are no longer with the company? Had anyone had any experience selling theirs?

I always advise asking all of the Internet Randos here until you get the answer that you like best.

It’s gotta be easier than opening your filing cabinet right?

There is never a windfalls at this bank. Only cuts, and they happen every single year.

The rocket scientists here are hilarious.

It is FREE MONEY”.

Benefits are ALWAYS changing, and always for the worse. You participate in small windfalls, and you participate in unexpected cuts. Don’t let your derision for any one program make you poorer.

Talk to any BNYM coworker who is raising a family OUTSIDE of Mom and Dad’s basement.

If that’s not you, then self reflect. Learn. Change.

It’s free. Stop it and accept the win.

My take is that you should trust all of these Internet Randos here rather than read the guide which you actually received with the shares. Perhaps find a loved one or close friend to read it to and help you. No sense in throwing away free money.

Do you also praise management when they expense pizza for the staff, in lieu of raises?

If you want to accept the shares as a win, go right ahead; don't suggest others be so naive. The "free" shares have been offset by cuts to other benefits. As such, they are NOT free.

It’s free. Accept the win graciously. How are people so jaded that they cannot accept a nice little win.

I'm not complaining. I actually think it's silly to bring it up from either side.... That is UNLESS we're being reminded about it by Senior Management in which case stop calling it "free" and pretending that it's anything more than a few dollars that we can have in two years.

Only at BNYM do people whine about free stock.

SMH…

It's not free when the CEO holds it over our heads. That aside, we're talking a few hundred bucks that vests after several years. It's pocket change even to the lowest paid employees

The shares convert to the home of the Whopper.

I tried to sell them ... they wont vest until 2026. Now I have keep account open until 2026 and then file taxes and sh-t. Horrible idea.

What happens? They've remained rock solid at the same price they were 20 years ago.

I thought the email said we had to hold them for 3 years.

I left the company in 2023 right after we got the shares.
Normally places don’t let you keep unvested RSUs to vest. However, BNYM is not like most places. You can actually keep the shares and wait for them to vest even after leaving or being terminated.

For mine I was told I have to wait until Feb 2026 to sell mine despite no longer being with the company.

If they are vested you can just sell them. If they are not vested, you lose them. I sell mine as fast as I can.
