Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Have the Wellesley employees really not been informed of their pending office closure?

Had what I thought was a kickoff meeting for a transition meeting with a lead in Wellesley. I am based in PA and have the req's to ultimately replace this team of 4 and was told that my team needs to ready by year end.

Manager had no idea what the meeting was for. It was incredibly awkward so I suggested we reschedule in July.

I was told that ANY future openings that my team has will NOT be backfilled in the Wellesley office. I know nothing beyond that but combined with dozens of longtime employees actively leaving it sure seems like the writing is on the wall.

This is really sad. I remember when we moved into that building. After the renovations, the second floor was REALLY nice.

If you are not in a growth center, odds are REALLY high your office is closing. Is your office getting replacement req’s for people leaving? Or are they going to GCs? Is your office getting needed upgrades? The warning signs are pretty visible if you look for them. The EC are not subtle about their location strategy. Be proactive and jump if you find an opportunity. Or transfer to a GC if you can or want to. I wouldn’t, but if you need to save your job and can afford to move (for most positions they’re surely not going to pay to move you).

I'm calling BS unless op provides some sort of proof.

Care to share what particular team you are expecting to replace/which particular project the team is on?

And why does replacing a team on a project equal office closure?

Apparently you dropped the ball as a manager by not informing them ahead of time.

I wish I believed in karma to have some hope that some day managers will be treated the same way they are treating regular employees.

No, we have not. There are plenty of rumors and conjecture, but nothing formal was ever communicated. OP, are you able to share when it's happening? Will the employees have a chance to work in one if other MA locations?
