Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

What would you do to try and avoid a layoff?

How about offering to work for free? Overlords would jump with joy. And best of all, you get to keep your job!

“For half to two-thirds of respondents, that included “working weekends, they would avoid taking time off,” said career strategist Julia Toothacre.

Between 30% and 40% would be willing to take a demotion or a pay cut, make a longer commute or be relocated. And “one in five workers could only sustain their current lifestyle for a week or less if laid off,” she said.”

You could come in to the office every now and then and stick around for more than five minutes before swiping out.

@qwp

Since when do people expect to have it all handed to them? Participation trophy mentality in our schools did not do anyone any good. Nobody gets success without hard work and drive.

No, it’s not wrong. You clearly have a boomer work ethic and you’re going to have a very successful career. I guarantee it. It warms my heart to see your post buried In a world of negative posts from entitled individuals. You stand out for your work ethic. I’ve seen it all and you’re going far.

When you find yourself whining on a layoff board and attacking a post from a long time dedicated employee who is sharing his work ethic and positive attitude you really have hit rock bottom.

Q: What would you do to try and avoid a layoff?

A: look for a new job ASAP and accept the first offer and get the he-l out before they lay you off! Don’t accept a match if offered and run even if new job pays a little less

@ 1uic-1tsD. That’s pretty pathetic and blind. You could be a 24x7 robot but as long as you are in a non growth center, making 6 figures, getting benefits that the US or UK mandate while other locations don’t, you are going to sent to the knackers at some point.

Literally all that you need to do to keep your job is to come into work. If you take it to the next level and focus you’ll stand out in a good way and be well rewarded.

And yet you’re still too frightened to leave. Job jump a few times and you’ll be amazed how quickly your desirability and pay will rise.

Banking has always been a sweatshop. That’s why people leave.

So… why not determine what keeps you here?

I avoid layoffs by not telling them go f themselves on a daily. I hate this place and the mo--ns we have to work with

Not me. I expect to be paid for my time.

Blows my mind how so many people at this bank will work 12 hour days for the pay they signed on for for a 40 hour work week- meanwhile every year they continue to reduce benefits.
