Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

A positive post

Before joining BNY, I had an unstable work history with consulting and temp jobs. So far, for the last five years, BNY has given me a stable workplace where I have enjoyed coming to the same office, talking to colleagues, feeling like I belong. I didn’t even take any vacations before this, because I was always afraid of losing my job. This is very valuable to me. My career really needed a stable stint and BNY has provided me that. Thank you BNY.

LOL how’s it going Robin? Better for you or worse than that whole 1MDB scandal where you defrauded a country?

When I started my own company I was blown away by all of the regulations, quarterly tax payments, bureaucracy with a self managed Keough plan, my own EIN (tax ID) and my own healthcare and more.

After 4 years I decided to simplify my life, come into the Bank (which had been a customer) and have them take all of the benefits out of my pay.

People here really need to run their own show for four or five years to appreciate how much the Bank does for them.

@wtw

You stand out in a good way here. Don’t ever get jaded like the guy who posts nonstop while “working” every day.

I am at 240 Greenwich.
Yes, there are some really mean spirited and extremely politically inclined people in this team - CCM. There are many people and not enough work for everyone, work distribution is uneven.
I am starting to interview for a new job and my resume value is higher because I have a stable work experience at BNY now, compared to previous jobs that lasted for 6 months or a year or 2 years.

It is up to us what we make of the opportunities that come our way.

My good wishes to all of you here who don’t feel satisfied and challenged at work. With time, you will be able to find other suitable opportunities.

Thanks for a positive post. It can be a horrible environment here at BNYM but it’s really no better or worse than working at any Fortune 500 companies. I’ve hated working at the Bank, enjoyed working at the Bank and experienced every emotion between.

Bottom line, the Bank can allow you to be as successful as you like or as unsuccessful as you like. 90% of it is under your control, although you’re not likely to accept that until you make a few career moves to other corporations.

Just as water seeks its own level, so does your career.

That was my experience too. I was laid off, but some of you don’t realize how good you have it. Corporate financial services is a cake walk compared to 95% of the labor force.
