Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Age discrimination is very real

So many older employees are being replaced by young, cheap labor offshore. This company is vile. These were dedicated, loyal employees now in their late 50's-early 60's Who will hire them at that age? Age discrimination is very real. And they will be forced into social security early for the lowest possible wages.

The CEO- Robin Vince - was on CNBC talking about the company's strong culture & its long history of strengthening the community. Seriously? If he gave a sh* about strengthening the community, he wouldn't be offshoring staff left and right. It's not like any of us were making top $$ compared to other places.

And here's the kicker: On his CNBC interview, he brags that employees get free coffee!! What a total a-hole. I urge everyone to email the CEO and Shannon Hobbs and let them know how inhumane and sick their rampant layoffs are and how they destroy older workers lives. Stop w/ the BS about a great work culture

@ese+1ucfc76K is 100% right.

Yea but you’ll have a hard time proving it since they make sure to sprinkle some younger folks in there so you cannot make that claim. Or any claim against them. They make it a point to forever their butts

@obm - so can’t your spouse just collect their supplemental pay and then retire?

Yes…
But if we really examine more closely, is it not ‘w-age’ discrimination more so than age? Older workers or those who enjoyed their careers here and dedicated their lives to the place are making a decent earning because they have been doing the job. And are now victims of their success here. Same as the 39 year old single US accounting Mom with 2 children or the 46 year old UK I.T. Dad who is the family sole bread winner. That is what hurts. Just to see an organization taking advantage of absent labor laws and non mandatory benefits in other countries to cut wage and benefit costs creating a human toll. And our politicians allow it. And no, the ‘career’ market is not hot here these days— note ‘Career’ not ‘job’.

Yes, my spouse was just nine months away from retirement when their job was eliminated yesterday.
