Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

The best manager I've ever had left last week

He was about the only thing keeping me and several of my teammates here. We're all about ready to leave after this. Why they would let him walk away is beyond me.

I value common sense over image, managers who protect their directs from nonsense, and those who speak up and challenge leadership when appropriate. I directly worked with maybe 4 or 5 of those types of people in mh 5 or so years at BNY. By the time I left, only 1 was still there. When I handed in my resignation, the 1 remaining told me they had just resigned as well. It’s was enough of a pattern for me to realize BNY doesn’t like leaders who step up and challenge the status quo. They want yes men who will do what they are told even if it means lying or putting out garbage as long as the image presented fits the narrative of the quarter. It took me a while to realize this, but now that I’m somewhere else, the culture difference is night and day.

Charlie was definitely here during GF. He left during it, but he was the one who approved it

@mho

Sorry, Charlie was not here in the Greenfield era. Charlie was only here long enough to quit and Todd took over.. It was Suresh who quickly quit and Bridget who took over and delivered GF.

I’ve seen in the last 5 years an outflow of excellent people, wonderful at their jobs and with an incredible knowledge base, leave and get zero counter offer from BNY. It’s like BNY is happy for the voluntary payroll reduction.

My manager was fired by Charlie when we were under the g-n migrating our apps to GF. He basically did all the HR BS in addition to working along side us and would help us with issues when we needed it but didn't micromanage.

What @ebo said is spot on. Many are planning their exits now or trying to hold on for a package.

Apparently the manager had enough and no longer cared to work here. It happens. It’s a very difficult place to work.

There’s no age discrimination here, that’s just goofy.

Being a manager in the current environment is difficult. I don’t blame him for leaving for greener pastures. At least I hope that’s what happened. Company is being managed like it’s being wrung out by private equity before they take the money and run.

A case of age discrimination? Happens a lot from what I've seen.
