Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Growth center Pittsburgh SEEMS safe from layoffs

Also-if you are in a department that deals with documents that originate from the IRS, there is zero chance that Pune or Poland would take over, as those documents would not be sent there, then on to clients. My daughter who works for a competing bank always says "Mom, you are safe."

Opinions?

Considering how stupid our leadership is, they'll probably outsource that function to India too. This way they can pay Pune a fraction of what they pay you and with no health or retirement benefits. After about a month, we'll have officials from 50 state governments in the US and every country in the EU screaming at compliance while news reports start flying everywhere in the media about how BNY breached the highly sensitive personal information of all our customers around the world!

@2bmr+1uiSBCiJ - why would it be “and other” when talking about one location? Its clearly “ another expensive location” . D-mb azz

Pittsburgh had layoffs. Maybe not as many as others this round but to make it a growth location when it usually does is quite ridiculous. Its also one of the more expensive locations and the talent coming out of there….Smh. My god its awful.

Yes the 401k and medical health plan benefit costs which this place matches. Also there is the yearly bonuses if you had been qualifying but now have no chance on getting anything prorated. Key word you mention is match- we now clearly see what has been done to put that ‘match’ out of reach for those getting it while getting replaced. If you are over 59.5 you still lose but probably dont care as much. Not so for younger workers. What more can be said? They just don’t like paying people for earned benefits.

My old job dealing with Social Security was moved to Oriskany 2 years ago and has since been shipped off to Pune. So yes, all kinds of highly confidential information is being sent to India.

There are ways for mor@ns to skirt any rules and there are already new teams in Pune reviewing IRS docs and producing forms. I am RM and reached out with my client’s IRS form issues to a clueless tax team in Pune. I reached out to risk inquiring on the absurdity of ignoring risk by offshoring US regulatory reporting tasks to clueless foreigners. Nobody’s is really safe except high level mor@s traveling on vacations disguised as t&e business trips and then laying off American jobs to save money. They have no shame! I will retire in December and won’t look back!

Thank you so much for your comment. Trust me, I make much less than 6 figures so maybe I am safe LOL. ;)

Hate to burst your bubble but no, Pittsburgh is not safe. There are reductions there. Lots of them. Yes, it’s a growth center but if you are getting paid over 6 figures and you’ve been here a while and are vested, then you are a reduction waiting to happen. This bank is really one big spindly withered grimy extension of the Federal govt if you think about it. So, just because you deal with the IRS doesnt mean you cant be replaced. Just pay it no mind and keep going until you can’t. And build an emergency fund if haven’t started one.
