Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I got a job offer

It’s less money, but it otherwise sounds like an improvement over BNY. I’m tempted to take it. I have been with BNY for four years now, and it’s time to leave. I don’t need to spell out the reasons to most of you. I got to the point where I would gladly quit without any other options lined up. The offer came from a much smaller company with only marginal ties to banking. I may just give it a try and see how it turns out. Worst case scenario, I’ll just look for something else.

@1yxk

To be honest, you sound like you are a Victorian woman with a bad case of the vapors.

Get help.

Over my career, I have taken risks from large companies to small ones and my salary has fluctuated. I found that you have to think longer term about what will be better for you, even though you find that “long term” may change. If this job is interesting, I would definite key take it, esp. if you would leave the bank without anything lined up. You never know what this new thing will lead to.

BK used be a ‘real’ bank. Now with the rise of Robin V, it’s a ‘stank’ not a bank. And no, not widgets. It’s an ‘IdJit’ processing shop.

I did the same thing, although for a rather significant pay cut (almost 40%), but I’ve never been happier. I work with genuinely nice people, the benefits are outstanding ($0 premium and $0 copay health cover for my entire family), the work is interesting, the company is staffed properly so we can actually service our clients really well… the list goes on.

I do miss some of my former BK colleagues, but I don’t miss the myopic, delusional, sociopathic leadership in Asset Servicing. Don’t miss the truly dreadful morale, the constant fear of being next to get the chop, the cruddy physical environment, the miserly benefits… this list also goes on.

Another thing that really hit me after leaving BK is that most people outside the organization don’t consider BK to be a ‘real’ bank. It’s a widget processing shop. That perception has the unfortunate side-effect of BK staff being considered widget processors (or managers of widget processors). Sad, but true.

Congrats! Take the risk, which doesn’t seem to be much that you were thinking of quitting anyway-and especially if you aren’t in a “growth” location or in a group that is now expanding in India. Sometimes smaller companies are more humane. This move could be transitory to a better 3rd opportunity. Good luck!

Congratulations!!! You are an inspiration! And it’s proof that a wee bit more money cannot buy happiness….. and in this case sanity.
