Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I was laid off yesterday

And I feel like a ton of bricks lifted off my shoulders. I wanted to quit for a while, because BNYM proved to be the worst work experience I’ve ever had. But there was always something that made me postpone my decision. You know, like life, and bills, and bad job offers. I’m so glad they finally pushed me out.

Correction: You need to still be employed on December 31 to receive the matching for that year. And if you're laid off after October 1st, you'll still receive 401k Matching for that year.

Bonus payments: yes, you need to be employed prior to receiving that.

No you do not get the match if you get laid off and since the 401k match is paid out annually, you are a huge disadvantage if you are no longer employed till the payout date.

I was recently laid off too and it was the best thing that could have ever happened. The sub pay and unemployment provided coverage while I was looking for next job. I spent the last few months taking a break to recharge mentally and physically. I recently accepted a new job working remotely now.

Happy for you. It is a great thing. I was in the same situation a few months ago. I was working 50 hours a week, bored out my mind with the work, wasting half my day in meetings every day then having to work longer to make up for it, always taking my time to help other people who aren't as bright especially the offshore people, almost every weekend being on call having to deal with some production issue or production release, and always forced to waste time in unnecessary meetings, tasks, or trainings. By the time I left we had to go through like 3 people just to help in production because a developer couldn't access anything without 3 middlemen. I was so over it after 7 years. My health was the worst it ever had been due to BNYM both physically and mentally at the time when I was fired. I was close to resigning in the two weeks leading up to it, I contemplated it for a couple weeks but before I had the opportunity I was fired for not following the RTO policy.

My mental and physical health has since returned to normal. I feel sorry for the person who had to take my place. If they are able and willing to do it every week props to them.

Me too, yesterday as well. I was in a non-growth location so I was not even allowed to apply for other internal jobs to get me out of where I was because of the removal of remote work. Funny, the company paid for me to be in a lot of leadership cohorts and training, but because of my location I was not able to use any of those contacts and skills to move positions anyway. I'm 60, so I thought that applying internally would be easier but that's all gone now. But like the others, for now I am actually very happy. I can finally get some rest and get my health back from the stress of BNY.

I am jealous too. I can relate with weight off this person's shoulder. Talking about discrimination, it is real and the managers have no clue how much information their favorites divulge. Such a shame!!!

@1yyj+1vfSucA5 - lets be real. This sh-t hole ensures you cant come back at them with that. Ive seen it first hand as a mgr. they will make us endure garbage behavior and performance from someone for months just to be sure they cant sue them for anything. Its a joke but they are very smart

I’m sorry you were laid off. If you were laid off for any discriminatory reasons you should speak with a lawyer before signing your separation agreement.
