Thread regarding Mutual of America Life layoffs

The end is near

Merry Christmas to all MOA employees, especially those who were unexpectedly laid off. It's truly disappointing that the MOA CEO, despite emphasizing transparency, failed to alert employees that such a situation was imminent.
We can't help but question the priorities here. What about the excessively high and unreasonable salaries of executives? Cutting even one of those could have saved 7–8 employees.
And then there's the HR lady from New York—sending emails and smiling during meetings without tangible contributions. What a waste! and Nepotism is HUGE.
MOA hasn't seen a profit since 2018, yet during this time, the previous CEO Greed flaunted his Super Bowl ring and practically "forced" employees to pose for pictures with it. Was this not a red flag signaling his narcissism? It certainly felt uncomfortable and inappropriate.
Were the board of directors blind to this behavior? And where is this so-called "Greed" now? Likely at his beach house in New Jersey, celebrating with champagne.
With leadership like this, I struggle to see a future for this company.
Yes, layoffs happen, but what occurred with MOA and the latest administration is completely unacceptable. Good luck!

Bailey was a great salesperson but ineffective and inviable executive especially after he brought in Pace. She's an admin assist/hostess if that

A previous poster mentioned Bailey. He has been absolutely invisible for several years. We never hear from him. See him. He seems to be hiding out without any accountability. He is someone the company would be better off removing him as an "Executive" and putting him back into a National Accounts sales role replacing Anderson, Loughery, Hurst, Jones, Shew, that lady overseeing Native American affairs who can't sell or that woman (Banks ?) rep who used to be in Phoenix covering the Catholic Markets. None of the are selling anything. They add no value and should be fired. Deadwood collecting big checks. Spending a schit ton and adding no f-U-*c-k#ing value. Can them !

Bottom line, if the Company was truly trying to recover, they would have kept the tenured, skillful, knowledgeable superstars instead of laying them off. They would have actually trained the PARS and GARS, which is completely on Bailey’s shoulders. I know their names were changed, another ridiculous waste of time and resources (whoever decided to make name changes should be fired since they obviously have too much time on their hands and definitely don’t understand how to prioritize!!) The chief decision makers on outsourcing customer service, should also be fired since it’s obvious they don’t know what customer service really is! Thank God I didn’t die when I worked for Mutual or else my poor family would be out on the streets since it takes years to get a death claim paid out. How shameful! That complete dumpster fire is squarely on Moriarty shoulders. I can’t imagine how the retirees from over 6 years ago are feeling, they choose monthly payments and when the Company takes its last breath, they will lose their money.

Yes, Greed did force employees to take pics with the Super Bowl ring on. He bragged about it constantly, including meetings with non-profit clients who would never have the money to purchase a frivolous thing like that. That's how "out of touch" and insensitive he was. May the Eagles be cursed! May They Never Win Another Super Bowl in John Greed's lifetime!

The restructuring of the field offices are going to make the customer service experience worst-not better. Until the company start's tying Executive and Employee Compensation to customer service scores on surveys, the same results will continue to occur. To drive sales, you have to provide the best possible service experience. Pay employees through the nose who retai clients and get high customer satisfaction scores. All VPs and Executives should be paid on client satisfaction only. Until that happens, they will continue to benefit financially by their own ineptitude. The restructuring of the field only benefits the RVPs, SVPs, and Field Executives VPs who don't do a damn thing about saving business or bringing in new business. With the layoffs and field consolidation, the people will get huge bumps in compensation. Stephen Rich, if you read this: Save $1M and fire the 3 Field Executives VPs. You must employ shared sacrifice. You can't just cut low level employees. You also MUST cut non performing and redundant Field EXEC VPs and other VPs who hold no value. It's time to end your firing bias. Time to fire more Executives and force all VPs and above to reduce their compensation packages by 25%. Shared sacrifice Stephen. Shared sacrifice. That is truly Diversity, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION.

With 100 laid off in the December grinch attack, I agree with many of the comments regarding the demise of a once great company. I, along with so many other employees, always give more than 100% every day, to fulfill our promises to the Clients and Customers. The dismanteling of the Regional offices, the removal of the service areas, the horribly inept record keeping system, the deception of the losses by the Executives for six years, the many s-xual harassment suits quietly settled for large amounts of money, the outrageous amounts of company assets spent frivolously, the outsourcing of almost all service areas to inept outside companies, settling for our outside partners- who we pay- to tell us what they will and will not do and in what timeframes, horrible customer service experiences from our outside partners, not paying withdrawals/rollovers/claims in a reasonable amount of time - these are decisions made by inept leaders and executives. Some are gone - Greed, Miseo, Severin, Rozich, others are still there - Moriarty, Golatt, Gregory, McManus. Moriarty, especially, destroyed everything he ever had his hands in. He is the primary reason for the destruction of the service areas. Why did he stand by, while all of his areas burned? Why is he still working? His leadership skills are non existent and he has been allowed to bully and yell at staff and has failed the company for so many years, starting in CA. Golatt, Gregory haven’t done anything to help with sales and have been complacement followers. Leaders are supposed to lead, not create hostile work environments. Leaders know their job is to help employees and treat them respectfully, they in turn will ensure clients and customers are provided excellent service. It was the people working on the front lines that demonstrated to our clients and customers the values of old MOA. If MOA was truly trying to return to glory, it would not have laid off so many of the people who worked so hard. I agree with others, seems like the sale of the company is truly the ultimate goal.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the over 100 employees fired in the past 10 days. Getting the ax right before Christmas is the ultimate humiliation to any worker especially when MoA just turned nearly a $500M profit on the Sale of 320 Park Ave. I'm sure the Board will now give million dollar bonuses to Rich and his lackies. All of us have a lot to be thankful for during this time of year but to the hard working men and women and all current (except for the inept C-Suite overpaid executives) and former employees may God bless you, your families, and may Karma come back to bite the a-s-s-e-s of the Rich Greedy corporate machine who did this to you. Merry Christmas to all and to all, good night now !
