Ok people unemployment is different in every state. We dont get a lump sum. Based on your pay a pool is determined. Since we got severence we cant get THAT money until after the total number of weeks we were paid for passes..the catch is you have to meet all the requirements for unemployment the entire time too. They arent fightng it because by time you can access the money, you probably found employment already and then they wouldnt actually have to pay.

Anonymous 198234 I don't know where you are getting your info but I actually spoke to someone and had to send all my paperwork to him. I have been working part time and the person at unemployment said to reapply when I get a notice.

They aren't fighting them, I got on unemployment in Massachusetts, did it right away, usually takes 3-5 weeks, after 3 weeks I got approved, it's a lump sum severance with release of claims so most states will approve it...just be patient.

Here is my two cents, I equally lost my job and got severance which I have invested really well. The one thing I will never do on earth is seek for unemployment benefits especially when there are so many companies that will hire you in a heart beat and pay more than wholefoods. I got so many job offers within 2 weeks than I ever imagined and settled for one reputable company and Iam so happy. Stuff like unemployment benefits is the start of depression, pick up yourself and move on.
In NY you don't get it until the "notice" pay and severance pay is gone. It's NY rule. Just make sure you send in all the paperwork and they will send you a notice when you have to go in again and reapply.
