Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

noticing store changes

heya

longtime customer here in new england, been noticing lots of cosmetic changes to the local store. produce seems to have just been reduced where visible inventory is concerned? large bins that used to overflow have now had the contents moved into smaller bins at the foot of the display. nearly no bananas? butcher has been reduced in scale with less meat on the trays. new, cheaper doors for all refrigerated dairy/yogurt/etc.. deli has changed to a system of vertically stacked trays in the new cases, sandwiches on top tray. prepared hot foods station has either changed or been rebuilt. everything looks sparser now and not in line with the grandiose space. hmm...

Stop shopping there. Shop local.

Kroger's Simple Truth brand is where it's at. It's far superior to our 365 brand, and much cheaper. They actually know how to run a grocery store.

Speaking of changes, our monstrous grocer here in TX (HEB), just launched their online grocery ordering. Over 5000 items, shipping is 5-10 bucks. Its pretty damn great

Wow 198715 Preach!! I love it. It's simply the truth though. Speaking of simply the truth, Kroger's brand Simple Truth is pummeling 365. I have been shopping there since I've been laid off (no more discount card) and have discovered how much money I wasted shopping 365. Kroger is beating WFM at its own game. So is any other large grocer that has decent management... it looks like.

the point is not bananas (surely you understand that), it's the many symptoms on display

yeah, i prefer the Field Day Organic line to the 365 line every time (365 loves to use soybean, canola, etc. which i don't believe are ever good)

The world is recognizing that a conventional banana or gala apple is the same everywhere. BUT it's also recognizing that an organic banana or organic gala apple is also the same everywhere. Neither of these things is grown locally so why should they travel farther and pay more? The environmentally conscious thing to do is shop around the corner. Customers don't need pricey fixtures or to watch hordes of hungry wealthy people feeding at the trough (hot bar) to get quality items. My local hybrid supermarket carries all the major natural brands, a full selection of vegan products and even has its own brand of natural/organics. I don't care if they carry WD-40 and bleach too. In fact, I might need WD-40 and bleach at some point. And if my 90 year old great uncle wants a Coke, I'm getting him a Coke! No one is going to stop buying motor oil, bleach and Coke because they violate some imaginary "core values"...When you take down the 15 giant power-sucking video screens and stop selling anything in soft plastic or Tetrapaks that don't recycle, and sell your products at a reasonable price with NO GIMMICKS I'll believe you're going to change the world. Till then, it's just a grocery store and an overhyped poorly managed one at that.

And so it begins! You'll be seeing a lot more of seeing a lot Less, including knowledgeable TM's to help you! Sorry you're worrying about no bananas! We're just worrying about something minor here- it's called, UNEMPLOYED!!!!! :-( :-( :-( :-(

Get used to this. No labor or budget for the spoilage we used to carelessly throw away daily. Being more fiscally responsible rings everyday now.
