Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

curious about the SW

so what exactly IS going on?

i see a lot of tears and general disappointment on social media from hoards of old wfm people i use to work with but with no explanations (for obvious reasons that their public comments could be used against them)

anyone able to share some info?

The SW region is a joke!!!!!! The leaders of it aren't qualified to be a shift leader at a mom and pop store much less running a region. They have ran it into the ground and I can't wait to be out of it. I have wasted last 11 years of my life working for this dump.

it's a damn shame really.

I worked with so many skilled TMs at my old SW store.

The company is charging hard to get to their expected 30% full-time / 70% part-time ratio. That means a lot of full-timers still have to go. Layoffs and forced open-availability can only trim so much fat. How do you go lower? You crack down on violations like cut gloves, "31 minute breaks", beard nets, shoe soles, "no-name tag", "clocked out 8 minutes early", etc. The stores in my town are changing and rotating leadership fast. No one is happy because there is no more security to the job. The smart ones are biding their time and jumping ship. The core values are ancient history.

It seems like those with whole foods the longest and thus, those with the most knowledge and experience are being forced to quit either by outright buyouts, job dissatisfaction by overwork, understaffing and a generally increased workload or by trumped up performance issues. I've seen our best workers leaving only to be replaced by inexperienced and unknowledgeable lower cost workers. WFM may be saving a few bucks on hourly labor but what we're losing is the talent and experience that used to set us apart from all of our competitors. Remember when we had a fully staffed sales floor with team members who would walk guests to items and then educate them on those products? Now, our guests are hard pressed to find a team member on the floor to assist and when they do finally find someone to help, that person probably doesn't know anything about the product. WFM should throw out the core values because they haven't lived by them in several years. WFM has become just another big box retailer.
