Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Pacific Northwest and NorCal?

It seems like a lot is going on this week in the East Coast, but what about the stores in the West? PN RP is retiring in September... perfect time...

In NorCal, the VP of Ops, (initials AL) is now the new Joe Rogoff in PN. NorCal posted for to re-fill this VP positions - but is it really needed?

NorCal: 2 months ago, Grocery and WB merged at our store And Meat and Seafood combined a few weeks ago. In Sept or Oct, Specialty will be part of the GroBody Team, maybe sooner.

Re: @IaRQOC3-4mly. As someone who has been at the company for years, I completely agree. Terrible decision making at the regional level. They've made major mistakes and it's the lowest paid people in the company who are paying the price now. We don't have adequate staff to complete basic tasks like proper product rotation and date checking. Equipment has fallen into disrepair and no department is deep cleaned. If the health department shows up they will find many violations. It's like not even working at the same company anymore.

PN PRT lost its STL to New Seasons Market (an exec position) actually, then quickly lost Bakery TL, Grocery TL, Meat/Seafood TL (recently combined), Produce TL, Prepared Foods TL all to New Seasons Market and many TMs have followed suit. A number of former specialists lost in the layoff also work at New Seasons now, as well as former TLs and ATLs from before the big layoff. PRT is hurting -- just look at comp sales and transaction counts. The flagship Portland store is understaffed in every department and our meat and seafood counters don't even stay open until close. I could go on and on. Worst situation I've ever seen at this company. Everyone I regularly talk to is looking for a way out.

Re: Post ID: @IaRQOC3-1ycg Things have been "rough for the company for a while" because of bad leadership at the highest levels! WFM squandered all of its competitive advantages over the years and failed miserably in keeping up with market/consumer trends. They failed to "change and evolve" when they should have! That is the primary reason things are now "rough", so "let's be honest" about that! Sadly, it's not Mackey, Robb, Turnass, Mindardi, to name just a few, who are paying the price----it's the lower regional and store level people that are bearing the brunt by losing their jobs! WFM has let down their employees and their shareholders in a truly shameful way.

Thought the guy in the Florida region has been preparing for his retirement since I was in my first grade. But then, the vice should also take his short sightedness and bias somewhere.

As far as the PN goes, yes we have been combining teams for the last year or so for stores under a certain sales threshold. Joe Rogoff the PN president has been planning his retirement for years now so this is no surprise for the region and anyone trying to find an omen in it might as well go read tea leaves. There is a loss of leadership both from New Seasons directly catering to WFM leadership and in part because not everyone likes changes. Whole Foods is changing because markets, customers, technology all change. Let's be honest it's been rough for the company for awhile, so they can either choose to stay the course or change and evolve to the change in market demands.

In Pacific Northwest we already have a few combined teams at smaller stores. When someone leaves they combine the teams. Some of the new stores are posting combo team jobs the Bellingham store that just opened was one. The Eugene store has a Grocery/WB/Specialty TL posting. You have to log into success factors to see it. We are having a massive exodus of leadership. Lots of people are done, lots also don't see or are in denial of what's to come. I don't have more information because I'm not in a leadership role. Hopefully someone who is will chime in.

What about NorCal? Will the stores continue to see cuts and will the regional positions be affected?
