Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

How many direct reports do you need to have now?

What is the minimum? Is it 5 or 6?

And what is happening to those that got theirs taken away? Anything?

In GWIM its supposed to be 5 or more. For those with less, they are individual contributors as well so I'm sure some will lose their direct reports and pick up some of thier managers work. No doubt the firm expects to reduce some headcount with the exercise but just because someone has only 1 or 2 doesnt mean they will be let go.

In ML it's 1:1 - 1 manager to each employee, so sometimes more managers are needed to bridge the gap.

In GTO some level 2&3 managers with too few direct reports are playing games with shifting employees from their managers to his/herself as needed to meet the required headcount but still having the lower level manager do all the work with managing the employees!

In some cases the lower level manager is demoted when there are two few employees for the two levels of managers to share and still meet the minimum headcount. But the lower manager keeps the work - including evaluations, assignments and so on.

Interesting- Many managers in my LOB have 5-7 so I wonder if there is a next phase of adding in some of the managers without directs underneath them and letting go of the excess with no report to make those that do have reports 8.

You need to have 8 DR's now, not sure what they are doing with managers that have no directs.
