Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

LAS Layoffs

Does everyone realize that the plan for LAS all along was that it would dissolve? Not all, but many posts on this site mention areas in LAS that are laying off. The area named Legacy Assets and Servicing. Everyone dropped the "and" from the name, like LAS was an integral part of the bank. There really are not enough jobs to carry the Legacy Assets part of the business any longer, just the Servicing. Layoffs in Legacy Assets really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

It's going to India! They work at 20k annually and salary not hourly. Cheap skilled labor!

I was informed for VPN you'll show on the report only when you use over 72hrs....the best thing to do is log off for your lunch and only work from home 9 or less days a month and you won't have to worry about exceeding that limit. Not sure about how it works with salaried employees as someone mentioned above it looks at your "regular work shift hours" such as 8-5 and anything before that is not accounted for. Not sure how that is true since you are using VPN to work even if before that shift time and salaried employees don't have a set shift in the timecard. Best rule of thumb is keep your hours below 72!

VPN report is real. It runs on a 3 month average. You can't exceed a rolling 72 hours/month. The hours tracked are regular working hours. If you work from 8-5, those are the only hours tracked. Working before or after those hours won't impact you. Your manager isn't the person tracking it but they receive a notification if you go over and they have to respond to the notification with whatever action steps they took. My understanding is that a 3rd notification involves corrective action.

to the VPN usage comment, there is a appliation that is bank sanctioned that you can install that will calculate and create a VPN usage report automatically.........or do what I do: create an excel spreadhsheet and manually input time online.

I was told LAS was for a few years but that they would transition us to the origination side or car lending when it ended and that working for B of A was not going to be temporary. That they needed "quality, flexible people when times got better. Sturzenegger violated the Mortgage Settlement

agreement by continuing to sell off, errr "service release" over 800,000 delinquent mortgages. Without moving the problem to someone else we would have LAS until 2050 at least.

Survived 11 rounds of layoffs so far but I keep hoping for severance.

I was wondering if things have changed in regards to mywork but it doesn't look like it has. I got reorged from an engineering role onto a non-engineering team several years ago. i want to move to another team but being mywork apparently makes that impossible. I have talked to several different managers off the record and they all said they could probably get me in but i would have to go back into the office. At this point the 3 hours i would spend on the road a day isn't worth it but don't know how much longer i can stand the position i'm in.

Exactly!!!!!!! I was hired 4 years ago and interviewed by a panel of managers. One of the managers asked me what was my long term plan because LAS is going away. LAS was temporary and I don't understand why folks act so shocked when this has been set in stone for awhile.

And to the the other poster, VPN usage is monitored. My manager told us what to stay under and as long as we didn't pop up on the VPN report she did not care if and when we worked from home. If we popped up 3 on the list more than 2 times she wasn't going to let us anymore

sorry for your difficulties. They absolutely do monitor vpn and send out a report if you go over. I heard if you have teleworker, it's a different story. Someone else will have to corroborate.

I go to work each day surrounded by contractors. Very few fte here. My team is situated in several different states, none are at my location. So I drive into work each day and sit among total strangers who change out every few months. I was told I may qualify for return to my work based on disability, but, I'd be first on the chopping block if I did so.

Unlike many posts on this site, leadership in our area did not force My Work back into the office. I thank goodness for that every day. I live over 125 miles from the nearest site and have a disabled husband and take care of my 88 year old mother who has had too many surgeries to count. I have been in the program for over 10 years now, and was told participation was mandatory. I received permission from my management to move about 3 years ago to be near better medical facility for my husband. During work, I have a helper that comes to my home. I would think these circumstances would grant me an exception to continue in the My Work program based on a "hardship". However, I have tried to post for jobs and have been told by recruiters that My Work no longer exists, and since hardship isn't really defined, it isn't a valid reason and I must be able to be at the site for the job. They haven't told me to move, just that I need to be there each day. I have a friend who is in the My Work program based on a medical exception. She has been told the same thing by recruiters -- that they won't recognize her condition. I know a business colleague who is bound to live in her state based on a custody agreement and has been told the same thing. There are no sites within over 300 miles from her. She has to stay put until her children turn 18, based on her husband's location in the military. The current My Work guidelines indicate enrollment into the the program is based on "hardship", "medical accommodation" and "limited space in market". The bank really messed up here, not putting much thought into anyone who might actually qualify for an exception to continue. This is just me venting. One last thing: my understanding is that most people who used to be My Work now frequently take their laptops home and just work under the radar, with management looking the other way. Apparently there is a report that is pulled showing whether they meet some rule about time on VPN. However, I heard most areas just overlook the report and let people stay home. Yet nobody can post for a job. The whole thing really is screwed up. Just me venting here.
