Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

You guys need serious therapy and/or another job.

I work for another "starts with a W company" on layoff.com and I accidentally clicked on Whole Foods. Now I visit regularly to feel better about myself and my job(that I'll probably get laid off for someday). But seriously, for the love, most of you need to quit and get help. i can't eat pizza with out thinking about sad WFM team members. I'll never touch your prepared expired food bar or drink a "tastes like hair" allegro coffee. Take it from an outsider looking in...life is too short and if you don't want be treated like you work in a grocery store then don't work in a grocery store. There's an age old saying...it's only grocery , no ones gonna die...well you might get salmonella ...but moral of the story, life is too short of it doesn't feel right chances are it's not.

Not there anymore. But a team of 5, and labor dropped a whole 1% over prior year's labor band. That, combined with drops in sales AND at least 1 shifty shift per month.

I'd love to see those schedules and judge what was eating up your labor so much you had to shave a tl shift every week.

What dept are you in? That's great that you get 39-40. My atl and I took turns working 32 hour weeks to try to make labor. I never took vacations cause I burned up pto having to do that.

And you're wrong. I got a good job without a degree. Took almost a year of interviews and rejection but I got it.

You're obviously a new TL. Give it a few years before judging others.

Thanks for this post. WFM has been great to me and everyone is still in a tizzy about layoffs that happened a year ago and expects the company to restructure itself quickly and without pain. I've worked here for 4 years with a promotion each year finally reaching TL. The insurance isn't half bad if you use your pwa card and let the money roll over. With 39-40 hour work weeks I make about 48k a year which is great considering the cost of living and average annual income of my city is about 45k. People on here complain about hours and pay but aren't willing to put in actual work. I'm dying to know what other job will put up with the whining and pay more than 11.30 an hour starting wage that isn't a union gig or doesn't require a degree or trade skill set.

This company screwed over so many good workers.....they totally messed up & lost out. Barely hanging on to the good ones that are still left. Customers used to know me by name/their kids......everything. I go there to shop but not as often just for little things and the employees look pissed and sad. No body wants to help you and the overall vibe is just dead.

I was there over a decade, always had very high marks in my JDs, and then all of the sudden started to get write ups out of no where. They were so Shakey I even managed to get a couple of them reversed, but my loyalty was shaken and I started job seeking immediately. I'm happy withy new position but still very bitter. I visit to keep up to date with the shadiness and reaffirm myself.

I worked at wfm for 5 years before finally having enough. Can't tell you how much it's improved my life simply by having a mon- fri work schedule again. You can do it too! Just get out there, you'd be surprised what's available if you just look. Took me 6 months of resumes and interviews and if I can do it you can too.

Hahhaaa...Seriously find another JOB...i left in the Spring. Best thing I ever did after being there for 7+ years. Better pay, Wayyyy better schedule----and I only come here because like someone else said. After all my hard work they started treating me like shhhit & took pride into making me/the team stressed out over worked, and just doing shady stuff...the turn over rate was getting crazy....and I worked the Service Desk/Cash Office. Tho I still wish my friends the best of luck, The A-hole TLs/ATL/STL not all just the jerks will know how it feels to be on the chopping block. lol. Time to do some real work. Good Luck WFM......NOT !!!!!!

I only visit to confirm that leaving the Titanic that is WFM after way too many years of dutiful and backbreaking service (yes I actually worked hard) was a great choice. I am doing so much better now not only financially but mentally and spiritually. It's amazing the clarity you get when you are on the other side of the mind eating cult that is WFM.

I left 4 months ago for a job that pays twice what I got at Whole Foods. Could not be happier. I visit for the gossip as well. I gave so much to that company and they pissed all over it. I am extremely bitter and want to watch it fall apart.

I left 20 months ago and couldn't be happier. Got out of the grocery biz entirely. I feel bad for anyone stuck there but you're not stuck. You can get out. Companies are begging for people with good service skills.... Meanwhile, it's fun to follow the disintegration because we all could see it coming. The arrogance and the defensiveness by the regional pigs. The unwillingness to listen to our well-meaning, thoughtful ideas. I love the idea that the regional and global execs are now in a vicious war with each other...a fight for control...finger-pointing and arguing all the time, unable to make decisions as all of their stinky sh!t comes right back at them. YEA! We knew back then "you can't fix stupid" and in the end that's exactly what the execs and board members are. Too dang stupid to compete or manage the business they lucked into. Keep the entertainment coming, y'all.

Well put OP....I find the changes within our company to be no different that what so many other companies do. While I disagree with some of the changes being made I find gratitude a powerful ally to feeling less like a victim - I have a good paying job with great benefits for now so I'll have a good day today. No one knows what will happen to us in the future...all we know is Now.

I think you're the one that needs to relax. Don't be so melodramatic. Ppl come here to vent and that's really it. Not that big a deal.

I view it as the same as the females on Good Girls Revolt. Yes we could go somewhere else, but what about the future generation of grocery workers?
