Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Something not being said about those nine fired STL'S (Virginia, Maryland, D.C) An ugly truth...

Is that many of these managers were remarkably racist. I can't name names on this site but at least three of the managers who were fired were incredibly biased towards people who had a similar ethnic background.

They would hire, promote and protect these individuals to really a shocking degree. A store team leader for those outside the company, has a massive influence and ability to hire and promote. And I saw time and time again these managers do just that. They would pester, harass and intimidate anyone outside of their cultural background. And they would nurture and help develop people (of similar backgrounds), who in some cases had poor job skills and abilities, and take them under their wing.

I believe the strong diversity of team members in the area was always a positive thing and should be protected. And time after time these STLs brazenly defied that sense of a global community and environment for their own personal goals and whims.

I have no faith that anything whole foods says is true, and I've been working here a long time. I've worked under so many STLs of which none are the 9. I remembers all my STLs doing the same practice of moving labor from one team to another, I thought that was the regulation. What is going on? Really no faith...

I love it when regional puts in their 2 cents on here, lol they actually read this. And depending on what you call cleaning up, 80% of the store team leaders fired were of a different ethnic background. Whole foods keeping it white apparently. Say good bye to diversity and promoting people of different ethnic backgrounds.

OMG you are so right about this!! If someone was from the country as the STL then they are guaranteed good promotions, raises, and opportunities!! Otherwise you were thought of as cows who could milked for money by giving b---s--- reasons not to promote you, give you better raises, all while helping their own cronies. I can speak for HUNDREDS of whole foods team members former and current; we say THANK YOU WHOLE FOODS FOR FINALLY CLEANING HOUSE!!! This needed to happen for a while now..

I remember there was a new produce team member who was from the same country as the store team leader. He had never worked for Whole Foods, came from a different job background. He was a good worker but his daily tasks mainly consisted of breaking down the boxes that came from the nights delivery in the produce cooler. He had very little customer interaction or training beyond stacking boxes. Everyone quickly began to notice that he would spend quite a bit of time in the STL's office; chatting away etc. It was clear that the STL treated him very differently than any other new hires; I believe because of the background.

After only around three months or four months of working this produce team member was put into the career coaching class by the STL. He was selected over many other very talented team members who had been in that store for far far longer. And again this team member was a good worker but had no experience as a supervisor, as a buyer, nor delegated any other tasks beyond sorting the shipment.
