Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Does anybody knows about the shelf to order program that is going to start in June? Does that means the buyers are going to be layoff?

Is that OTS (Order To Shelf) or OTH (Order To Holes)?

We are doing the Order to shelf now and it only makes sense because nobody should have product sitting in the back of the store where it doesnt make money just sitting around. If you get a truck every day yoy should order everyday. Our team has always been very efficient and smart at ordering and with this OTS system we now have barely anyhing hanging out in the backroom. Yes, it might feel like you are getting added responsibility but you are only feeling that way because you are thinking sbout the good old days. Those are over, change is important. Surround yourself by strong people to become a strong team. None of this is impossible because everything is finally getting streamlined and takes the guessing work out of your day. I still love my job and my team and will stick with them until then. Im looking forward to changes, opportunities and challenges and somdoes my team. If you feel burned out and you find yourself "b--ching" more and more often (everybody has a bad day so regular venting with close TMs is totally normal) you mqy take the hint and find yourself something else. Everytime a TM left or had to leave they either found something better or they came back. Its all in your own hands. "PMI" people!!!

All buyers on non-perishable teams will be let go with no severance, but that frees up money for free pizza slices for all hourly TMs.

I agree with the last post, health care and IT will outpace all other forms of employment for the next 50 years and since most people use technology up the a-- maybe making ur brain hurt to learn a new skill set might serve a person well, just saying.....

All you guys need to go work for a successful company for a while. Teams are lean, most things from procument, hr to payroll are automated and middle management is obsolete. This is the way it is and eventually if wf is to survive (not bought out) it will need to become this if too. It's biz model is too expensive and it's overhead can no longer be justified. Cats out of the bag. But imagine trying to turn a big a$$ boat 90 degrees. It's a slow dragging process. WF can't change over night but it can implement slow incremental changes designed to save money...period.

most of you also need to get some kind of eduction or other skills. They are practically holding your head toward the writing on the wall. Wake up and motivate to be more or work for something better.

And finally WF owes you nothing. You work they pay. No love here. Some of you act like this is some kind of codependent abusive relationship you cant leave. You are an enabler. I suggest an exit plan. I know it s---s that your $1/hr higher wage than the average is now actually making you work harder but 😭, where we're you guys in the early 2000's when most of the world adapted...oh yeah smoking weed and selling organic kumkwats.

The tech is a joke. Makes our jobs almost impossible.

-ibs- your earlier post concerning buyers....we possess ancient knowledge from the great grocery arcanum of organic light. We do not use ordering guns - we use our minds to levitate our orders to DVO.

Yes.....we are "special buyers".....

Seriously though....the old WFM model did cater to laziness and dragging butt - now those days are mostly gone. Buyers have to work sometimes more than one subteam at my store, which is common elsewhere in the world of grocery store work.

We had a buyer who would spend 6 hours ordering during his 8 hour shift. This was completely allowed for over a year. (Ten years ago)

WFM is showing no sign of being savvy enough to handle automated ordering. We have crumbling tech in our store as it is. I am not convinced that the time needed to support an auto ordering system in every store would improve efficiency. Humans will always be needed in the process.

Cheer up...no one knows what will happen next. Breathe, sleep and eat well.

What is sad is let's say you have your order so tight of pizza boxes and your next order is out of stock.. No other store will give you any because they dont have back stock either.. Solution is paper plates and tin foil but wait the plu was deleted out of the scale and the one at the register is NIF.... lmfao.

This is already happening at my store. All back stock gone. Tons of stuff thrown out even packaging. Minimizing EVERYTHING! Also new rules 'dont party where you prep' and new 'best practices' for labeling product that comes in. Buyers are still there. So far

No. We don't have the technology for that right now. It basically means we won't have back stock. Ever. It will be nice to tell people that what we have on the shelf is all there is. What it means for buyers is you better keep your ordering tight.

What I'm trying to say is that you have to be a player on the team that makes a distinct difference operationally and placing accurate orders is great but it's gotta go a lot further then that or youre ripe to get culled...especially in the waters you guys swim in...I've read the posts here...I thought it was wine and roses at your company...but after trailing this site...sh-- you hippy bastards are rough...real f---in hard ball over there at wfm...f--- it ...here's to you mf's that are dragging yourselves up that ladder...

Hi guys--not to be disrespectful at all..not trying to diss..and I work for a competitor...why do buyers think that they have a specialized skill?...I am a mngr on a team that regularly does 240,000 a week...my assistant and I do the ordering and that's the easiest part of the job...if your company is paying some kind of premium hourly pay for someone to place orders...I would imagine that's going to end...you've got to do more...to put it simply

Buyers come in at 3 am now. Eventually they will go away. The registers will eventually do the ordering but we know how well R10 works.
