Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

I heard the ASTLs at my store talking about how all the store bonuses were cut for the first quarter to pay for last year's severance payout.

I never counted on bonuses as my salary. Yes it was always nice to get extra money but that's not what it's for. As far as astl not working I've known some to s--- but my current one works his a** off. So much more than my STL. I was a TL (lost it through cuts) and I worked my butt off for so many years. One of the reasons I stepped down was that I had no desire to have that much stress as a astl. I currently feel defeated and for once hate my job but can't figure out what I want since it's been years of my life to get to this point. Good luck to everyone, this is going to be a crazy time for us all.

Bonuses were cut to provide free pizza slices for all hourly TMs. I heard this myself, those guys in charge were talking about it.

That's the point. How many new store Team leaders are out there? In the region I'm in the RVP just shuffles the favorites around.

STL's in similar volume competitors are at 150k so the EVA is the equalizer- no equalizer- more STL turnover

I guarantee you that STL starting pay is not $45/hr. That's more like mid-range. It would probably take a new STL 10 years to reach that pay level the way the pay increases are being throttled for all of us these days.

Why would one want to be an ASTL anyway? I heard those positions are the next to go. Most only make a few bucks more than the team leaders. It's the Store Team Leader that's raking in the big dough. No bonus, no problem...still got that 45 an hour salary!

Right...keep smokin that organic bs...if that ever happens, this is the new norm. Its easy to get those bonuses, staff back even if things turn around. Econ 101.

Bonuses are tied to EVA improvement. Comps and leveraging costs are the leading drivers, so bonuses have gone down considerably. Not just for store leadership, but they've also gone down for regional and national leadership, and by down, I mean non existent for many. The reduction in force and cost cutting was entirely due to the overwhelming impact competition has had on the industry. Whole Foods Market has been positioning itself to withstand the pressure and come out strong, something that will benefit the thousands of people who work for the company.

@ooe. Enlightening me how's does an astl work their "tails" off anymore than the team leaders, assistants and team memebers than who are also taking a reduction in pay in either lack of gain share, cut hours or reduced benefits. Please I'm open to hearing your arguments.

So far, this is true. We work our tails off, was counting on that bonus. The last few years our bonuses came in the beginning of February. Most of us did not contribute to this mess. This is bs!

sounds fair to me, you can't cut labor or gainsharing any leaner on the teams, purging full timers will take too long to get the benefit of new cheap part timers with no benefits for Wall Street, i wonder if global leadership has had to give anything up or did they get bonuses for slashing cost.
